CNY: The Dragon Year 2012!

Like all the previous Chinese New Year(s), this year was celebrated in a pretty much similar fashion compared to previous years. Yes, there were the abundance of good food for the reunion dinner, followed by the annual visit to the temples. But, compared to other years, it was also different. Nothing is ever similar, no matter how much we would like things to remained the same; they usually don’t. Unfortunately. :(

Nail Art: Tuxedo (Inspired by Zooey Deschanel)

If you didn’t already know, last weekend was the 69th Annual Golden Globes. For the glamorous event, Zooey Deschanel rocked a tuxedo manicure and set a nail art trend, with many girls attempting this nail art (including yours truly) :P Well, first of all, it looked uber cute and it is easier to do than it seems be.

Here is my version of the Tuxedo nail art. Basically, I didn’t improvised and basically did an almost similar one. Heh. What do you think? Before I post up more pictures of my nail art, I just want to share with you the Tuxedo tutorial I made because it was too easy not to share out how I did it. All that was made out of the nail art was basically dots of different sizes.

Simple, isn’t it? :) This rounded bow tie is definitely easier to do compared to the triangular shapes ones; it’s cuter too! Do share this tutorial around with your friends and if you tried them out, do show me your pictures! :)

If you looked closely, the buttons for the nail art have another larger almost transparent dot over it. That would be the top coat. Because my black dots always seemed to smeared as I apply my Seche Vite Top Coat. I don’t know if there was something wrong with the Seche Vite top coat but by dotting some top coat over the black dots. The dots would not smeared anymore when you paint the final layer of top coat.

And I had to take a picture of my nails with my bow tie and collar! They look so matching, it hard to resist a photo opportunity like this. The only downside was that I didn’t have a photographer to help me with the shots. I’ll tell you honestly that I must have taken at least 100 shots to get only like two decent enough shots. And the picture below was the other shot. They looked awesome, no? ;)

Review: Seche Vite Top Coat

If I told you a miracle top coat exists, would you have believed me? Maybe if I asked you that 20 years ago, you might not. But these days, with improved research, development and technology to produce so many wonders, a miracle top coat would not sound impossible. And in my honest opinion, after using it, I have to say that Seche Vite dry fast top coat, is a miracle wonder! True to its purpose, it does dries off the thickest polish in a amazingly short period of time. Also, it does well in smoothing out the streaks and the ‘bumps’ from the my nail art designs. What more can you ask from a top coat? :)

However, nothing in this world is over perfect and the same applies to this top coat. It does have its ‘flaws’. I’m not sure if you can read the description from the picture above, but it says; “WARNING! This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause birth defects or reproductive harm.” So, apparently the harmful chemical is called Toluene, and you probably have to inhale a lot of it to get poisoned or to even affect your body. I’d take my chances with it, because disclaimers like this are usually to discharge the liability, in case someone was stupid enough to drink or inhale the bottle. And speaking of inhaling, I have to admit that the top coat does have a bit stronger chemical smell compared to the rest.

All in all, this top coat is one that I cannot live without. I have never gotten bed nails and my polishes these days are so flawless. (Well, almost. It would sometimes smeared the black dots because they are not dry yet. So I’ll recommend you to do quick swipes or wait for the polish to dry and then, only apply the top coat,)

Nail Art: French Manicure x Hello Kitty

Kawaii! - I saw this Hello Kitty manicure online and I knew it was too cute not to try to attempt it! Plus, it was pretty simple to do seeing I have finally bought my professional 15 nail art brushes. (But it was a pity that I have yet to be able to paint gorgeously using those brushes. :( I had earlier tried painting multiple designs with it and they all turned out hideous. I guess I need more practice and I’m thinking of getting acrylic paint, apparently it would be easier to paint using those.)

Wee, found an ancient Hello Kitty toy. I think I’ve had it for 10 years already. Heh.

For this nail art, it’s pretty easy. I used dotting tool for the eyes, nose and yes, even the red ribbon (cause my painting technique still have miles to improve on). I only used a long striper brush for the whiskers. Even then, the stripes weren’t evened out. Hmmph. Need more practice.

The polishes I used for this nail art are both from The Face Shop, Nude (BR801) and White (WH002). So, what do you think of the nail art this time? :) But if I had to be honest, nothing beats the Spongebob nail art! Haha. Till next time. :)

Let’s go nude! - I probably haven’t done any nude swatches but then again, I only have one nude polish that I am absolutely in love with and it’s non other than the one from The Face Shop. I scouted around for the perfect polish for some time, and they were usually disappointing; not in the right shade or just too sheer. I wouldn’t say that this polish from Face Shop is perfect, it does have its flaws. Like most nude polishes, it is a bit sheer and hence, streaky when applied a few coats.

From this picture, you can see the slight streaks in my nails. I had three coats here. The streaks were more obvious before the top coat.

But other than that, the colour is absolutely gorgeous. It’s nude with a slight tint of pink, which doesn’t wash out the nails or made it look dull.

I love how shooting with a green apple brings out the colour of my polishes. :) What do you think?

Nail Art: Spongebob, your favourite cartoon!

My one and only favourite cartoon character would have to be Spongebob and I’m not ashamed to admit it. :P Heh. He is so lovably annoying, and yes, I look forward to the weekends’ mornings to watch Spongebob Squarepants in my jammies.

I loved him so much, that I was tempted to somehow make the picture above as my header for the blog. But, I thought better of it, seeing how it didn’t blend with my blog’s theme and the yellow was a bit off. I did, however got my nail art done, inspired by the many expressions of Spongebob!

Can you find the four expressions from the picture above? :)

Of all the nail arts that I have done, I have to confess that this was my favourite one…. and also, a super duper easy one. Yea, seriously because I used stickers! You didn’t think I’ll be crazy enough to spend 5 hours and meticulously draw each one of the expression? Haha, I wish I was that talented. The stickers are a first of a kind that I stumbled upon online. They are known as water decal stickers, or in simple terms, stickers transferred through water. You just need to cut the stickers out, then soak it in cold water and then peel the stickers off and placed it over your nails. Of course, you have to paint a base colour first. In my case, I did it with yellow (duh!).

As easy as I made it sound like, it took me two wrongs to get it right. Haha, I placed the first sticker on the wrong side and the second went down the drain, because I got so impatient waiting for to peel it off. And the picture below, is one of the almost screwed up one. I didn’t place it correctly and it dried off before I could adjust the sticker.

I thought it resembled a bit of the troll face (albeit the less teeth, longer nose and bigger blue eyes), because I stuck it at the side. What do you think? Haha.

My dream car.

I’m pretty sure it is not news that I have a driving license, but I cannot drive. Haha. True fact, story of my life. But that doesn’t stop me from having my very own dream car, for when I could drive, of course. So, meet my dream car; the Peugeot RCZ. I was tempted to say that my dream car was a Lamborghini, but then, I wanted something I could actually own one day. Hence, the RCZ.

I wanted to check what the market prices for cars were and I stumbled upon this particular website; CarSifu, where they have plenty of cars listed there for sale with their prices as well. I tried to search for the RCZ but it came up with nothing, I guess everyone who bought that car loved it too much to sell it. Haha. But I realised they had quite a number of Porsche. So, I browsed through some of the entries and came across a Porsche Panamera 4S. I’ll be honest and say that I am not a huge fan of cars, so these cars are quite foreign to me. In the entry, you’ll find a simple description of the car, along with some other details you might need like the contact number to get in touch with the seller.

You’ll also find that you can upload your own entry as well, if you’re planning to sell your own used car. It should be easier to sell them at a website, specialised for that. Rather than advertising in the classifieds of the newspaper (do anyone still do that?). This is free, after all and you get to upload pictures as well. At least, potential buyers can see the condition of the car before arranging for a meet-up. This would save time as well. Imagine if you saw an ad for a cheap car, and you spoke to the seller who claims that the car is in a tip-top condition, only to find that (when you meet up) that the car is in dilapidated state. What a disappointment and waste of precious time. Which is why, we should embrace the wonders of websites like CarSifu. (Btw, is there any other similar websites? Do tell me if you know of any.)

I have just finished reading the book, it is one of those books that leaves you awestruck. Don't believe me, please do me favour and read it. ;) I have fallen in love twice with him; first in For One More Day and then, the life-inspiring Tuesdays with Morrie (I cried buckets watching the movie. Wait, I cried in both his books also.) Heh. Although I didn't tear up reading this book, but it taught me a few 'lessons' to carry on in life.

Nail Art: Golden Red Water Marbling

Hola! A very Happy New Year to the person reading this. ;) Thought I’ll kick start the new year with a post on my latest water marbling attempt. I decided to give it a go again, after the last successful water marbling attempt, with the latest polishes from Nature’s Republic. This was because they were new, and while they were still watery, it would be easier for the polishes to spread on the water.

If your polishes spread out like this, it means you have been successful in step one of water marbling.

Using a toothpick, you should lightly drag it across the surface of the polishes. This was the pattern I randomly created, I have to admit, it’s not the best looking one. Haha. Like I said, it was random. That is the beauty of water marbling. No two nails would look same.

Ta-da! Just dip over your nail over the design you created, and you’re done! As you can see, I have cello tape around my nail. It is neater (and easier) than having to remove the excess polishes that sticks to your finger. Without the tape, it can get pretty messy and not to mention, troublesome.

Can you spot the odd one out? My index finger is well, sort of ruined. It was the first nail, so I guess I haven’t gotten a hang of it. I have attached a few more pictures, so do enjoy. :)

By the way, the polishes used in this post are Nature’s Republic YL503 (Gold) and RD502 (Red).

Inspirations this time around is from SIN, an online shopping website. I have to especially love their SIN gothic collection! When I saw that collection, I felt like I had to get everything from it! But today, I have selected a my few favourites to show you. There is something sexy, edgy about the clothes; like the Leatherette Leggings. (Pair it with a sexy corset! Now, why didn’t I think of that?) Or the sweet, feminine Sheer Puff Sleeves Top and Semi Sheer Low Cut Cropped Blouse; which I can totally imagine wearing them both for work and casual outfits. Talk about versatility. Mhmm. But my favourite and (everyone else’s) would be Miss Glittery. Mesh is all the rage for this year and it seems that this dress in particular hit all the right note with a sequinned sweetheart bust line and a flare skirt. It’s the perfect babydoll dress for parties! One that would make head turns, and ballerinas jealous. Heh.

Food: Buffet at Restoran 180°C

Gone are the days where you’ll pay full price for meals, not when there are group buying websites around offering unbelievable deals. If you haven’t noticed, the trend these days are to purchase vouchers from these website and then, redeeming them at the restaurants. Recently, I purchased a deal for a mere RM 12 from Everyday.com.my. The deal is for a all-you-can-eat steamboat and charcoal BBQ buffet. It seems like a really good deal to be missed, so I bought five vouchers for the family as well.

This is mommy, redeeming our vouchers. :)

Small (I assume to allow it to cook faster) chicken cutlets over the charcoal grill.

Of the many BBQ buffet that I have been to, this was my first time having charcoal instead of the typical hot stone plate. I have always been told that food cooked using the charcoal (much like the olden days) were tastier. I’ve got to admit that it was true, the meat did taste better compared to the normal BBQ ones. However, I felt that the meat were marinated a bit tad salty to my liking. I grew up eating rather bland food, so yea.

Here is a another picture of the grill, overloading with food.

The downside to cooking with charcoal was that it was a bit more slower than the usual BBQ ones. But it was worth the wait, and what is the hurry in getting the food cooked so fast. Steamboat and BBQ is all about slowly enjoying the meal after all. As for the steamboat, there are a few choices of soup; Tom Yam Soup, Curry Soup, Chicken Soup, Mushroom Soup and Tomato Soup. We were spoilt for choice, so we asked if we could sample the soups before deciding. Most restaurant wouldn’t have allowed it but they did, which was awesome because I’m sure as hell won’t be happy to be stuck with a soup that I hate.

Merry Christmas and Happy Boxing Day! I hope you’re enjoying your last week of 2011; I’m not sure if I can say the same for myself. Somehow, these days, I feel like I lost interest in mostly everything, except reading of course. I’ve been reading, finishing at least one book a day. Now, I wished I hauled more books from the Big Bad Wolf Sale. So anyway, I have one more nail polish to swatch and I decided to do it today, seeing how I ran out of creative juices for nail art ideas.

Review: This polish from Nature Republic is a gold coloured one, and the thing about metallic colours, is that the streaks are pretty much obvious. The same goes for this polish, it was streaky and even the top coat didn’t manage to smoothen it out. So, you can say that I’m not all for this polish (as compared to the last two red polishes). But it is easy to apply; the formula wasn’t too thick. I have two coats of it, and you can put on an extra coat if you like a better coverage.

These days, even taking pictures of my nails is becoming a drag for me. I wondered where have my inspiration went to. I have to admit, I am going through a rather tough phase of my life. But in time, I’m sure my inspiration will be back. I hope you’ll find the pictures in today’s post okay. If you thought otherwise, do drop me a comment. I know I’ll really appreciate the feedback.

Nail Art: Keroppi, the Frog.

It has been some time since I did a nail art, but I was pretty inspired by CutePolish's Keroppi nails, (she made it seem pretty easy to do it), so ta-da, here is my nail art. I have to admit that this was the first time I used a brush and my dotting tool for a cartoon inspired nail art, so keep your expectations lower. ;)

At this point, if you don’t know who or what Keroppi looks like, you could be thinking that this is kind of cute. Also, you don’t understand why are there stripes of red on my white tipped nails.

And now, you get to see a picture of Keroppi! Some of you might be thinking, “Whud, it doesn’t even look similar to the cartoon.” I have to agree, because I wrongly estimated the size of the white dot using my dotting tool. Essentially, it has all the colours but the eyes. T.T

So, honestly, what do you guys think of the nail art this time? :) And if you are interested in doing this nail art, I’ll show you the polishes that you would need.

Here are the tools I used! I have yet to buy nail art brushes (although I have found the perfect one, I was stupid enough not to buy it at that point of time), so I made my own nail brush. The brush you see here is from an old topcoat bottle, I trimmed it till it was really thin. And the wooden sticks, is obviously my dotting tool.

Swatch: Nature’s Republic RD502

Confession: I am absolutely in love with red. Not that it would come as a surprise, seeing how my last post was also a swatch of a red polish. Heh.

Review: Compared with the last post, this polish is of a brighter shade. Despite that, the polish didn’t come across as cheaply looking when applied. (This is the reason why I never liked buying red polishes, that they would appear.) Consistent with the RD501, the polish was rich and only requires two coats for a even coverage. Again, I am impressed with the polish.

This is how it looks like under direct sunlight. Are you in love yet? :)

And here is one last picture! Of my bright red lips and my nails. Heh. But I dared not touch my lips, for fear it’ll smudge my lipstick. I wouldn’t have worn these bright reds if it wasn’t for a funky party that I was attending. I went there dressed almost like a guy, with lipstick. Haha,

Trends: Paper Eyelashes by Paperself!

Oh, yes. You’ve read that right, we have moved from the typical eyelashes to intricate paper artwork for eyelashes. Frankly speaking, I don’t wear falsies erm, because I just don’t. Haha, actually I am afraid those false eyelashes would be too heavy for my eye lids. But I would definitely give these beauties a try, if given the opportunity.

The top one is a regular eyelash, and the bottom one is a smaller, individual eyelash.

Little facts about them: These were inspired by the art of Chinese paper-cutting. You can use them over and over again if you take proper care of them. Available for sale on Paperself with prices ranging from £12.50 to £14.00. You can also get them from Luxola, a Singaporean shopping website.

It's December once again, so cliché to say that time flies so fast but really, it's true. The first of January, 2011 feels like yesterday. There are just so much going through my mind that I do not know where to begin. This year itself, have been a whirlwind of emotions. Even as I am recalling now, I'm feeling a rush of emotions. But, life goes on and I have to move on. Yes, I am doing just that. But sometimes, the pain just comes back uninvited.

“Carmen, you can do this shit.”

For the past few days, I find myself staring blankly at the empty space, and I wonder how long would this carry on. I would really love to pull myself together, and just for once, stop giving a damn. What is done was done. There is really no use to think about it, it’ll only make the pain worse. So, yes. This is the ‘depression’ state, that I have been expecting. Haha, I just never thought how painful it would all be. But I have been told that it gets better with time. And with due time, I will get over it. Now, I just wish for a time machine.

I’m sorry for the emotional status updates, please bear with me. I promise, I will get better. And thank you, to those who check in with me, if I’m doing fine. <3

Swatch: Nature’s Republic RD501

I have always wanted a red polish, seeing how I absolutely love the colour. But I have never been able to find one in the right shade; some of them were just too bright and … just doesn’t suit me. That was till I tried on Nature Republic’s one, I fell in love right away! :) You’ll find that the colour is not too bright, but then, the colour varies when it is indoor and under the sunlight. Actually, the colour is almost similar to crimson.

Review: To be honest, I have got nothing much to say about the polish except that the colour is fantastic. Also, one coat of the polish was sufficient (it is very pigmented) but in the pictures, I have two coats on. When you remove this polish, you will find that it will leave your nails in a bit of pink.

New chapter; everyday is a new chapter.

Yesterday marks the end of a chapter of my life. It wasn’t easy to do it, but needless to say, it was something that I should have done eons ago. But for what it was worth, I held on till yesterday. Looking back, there are memories that I know I would cherish forever and of course, moments that I wish I never had to relived. And then, there are wishful thinking. I wish I had not given in so easy or I could have fought for what was my worth. But what is done is done. I am just glad, it is over. It is time to move on.

Manicure: Funky Nails

I have always wanted to paint my nails in different colours, but somehow the combinations doesn’t really work that well. I finally got the colours right time. They look really cute and you cannot believe how easy this manicure was.

Polka Dotted / Half Moon Manicure.

Hmm. I wanted to do a half moon mani, but it didn’t quite work out. The bottom half of the moon, should have been smaller. Because now it just looks like an in between of French mani and half moon mani. I’m definitely going to try to do a another half moon mani, once the sister brings back nail polishes from Korea baby! Haha, I have placed my order. Not much; just a few polishes, stickers, brushes and make up stuff. :) They would be flying off today, and for the next 7 days, I would not have my mom’s home cooked food. :(

Desserts Miniatures.

About a few months ago, I order some really cute lip gloss from United States for my dearest best friend’s birthday. I expected them to arrive slightly after her birthday but it got delayed and only arrived about a few weeks back. The lip gloss came in the form of dessert miniatures and were absolutely adorable. :) And it was perfect for a mini shoot with these cuties.

I wanted to create a series with the last four pictures, but somehow the colour of the wood differs (must be when I was post-processing it) .. so I didn’t put them together as an image. Mom has been suggesting I create a series of pictures, then print it out and place it on the walls of my room. :) What better way to decorate my own room than with my own pictures right? Haha.

Anyway, I must admit that I have always love any food miniatures. There is something about the tiny replicates of food that amuses me. Which is why I’ve been eyeing tonnes of accessories to get from MiniBites. :{) I have a doughnuts and a hamburger earrings already, any suggestions of what I should get next? :)

Behind the scenes: Aladdin the Musical.

Have you heard of the latest musical in town? Oh, yes. Aladdin the Musical would be playing in Sunway Lagoon itself! I fondly remember growing up watching this Disney cartoon, so you can imagine my excitement when I found out that a musical adaption is being produced right here, in Malaysia. And last weekend, I managed to get behind the scenes of the musical itself, where the cast rehearsed a few scenes and also, toured around the venue of the musical.

If I’m not mistaken, she is the story teller/fairy. Got to love her skirt. :)

Based on the rehearsals, the musical seems very promising and you can be rest assured that the adaption will be an entertaining one. There were songs from Lady Gaga, Travie McCoy and even Katy Perry. An you won’t imagine who was singing these songs. The genie would be the one preforming these songs. Amazed, huh?

Haha, meet the Genie. The Genie character is the most fun and lovable one of them all and he might just steal the spotlight from Aladdin and Princess Jasmine.

And this is Aladdin and Princess Jasmine.

This scene is when Aladdin brought her on the flying carpet, and of course, they sang ‘A Whole New World’, the popular song from Disney’s Aladdin.

We were told by the Mr Aaron himself, that 3D effects would be used during the musical, along with live animals on the stage as well. This was of course, by far the first time ever that anyone have attempted something like this. The animals were currently being trained by the Petting Zoo, Sunway Lagoon. I can’t wait to see the goats, chicken and ducks quacking away. Haha.

The stage currently being set up and if you observe the lights, it is painted with UV light to create a 3D effect.

Oh, I was amazed when I found out that the production team were from Malaysia! Don’t you feel proud already; Malaysia Boleh, baby! And the best thing was, that all the preparation for this musical started a mere 2 weeks ago. When I said all, I meant like from the casting and the rehearsal! Everything in two weeks!

This was the first time I managed to get behind the scenes for a musical and it has been a wonderful teaser. Haha, it certainly did leave me wanting to watch the whole musical and I cannot wait to watch it. So, for those who are interested in getting tickets, here are the details. :)

Aladdin The Musical will be playing at the Amphitheatre @ Sunway Lagoon from November 25th, 2011 until January 2nd 2012.
The musical will show once a day, from Sunday to Friday at 8:00pm (no show on Tuesdays), and twice on Saturdays at 7:15pm and 9:15pm with extra shows on 25th December 2011 (Sunday) and 1st January 2012 (Sunday) at 7:15pm and 9:15pm.
Ticket prices range from RM300, RM250, RM200 and RM100 for adults and RM150, RM120, RM100, and RM50 for children up to 12 years old.

Even though, Boys Like Girls are down to three members, I’m still excited to hear their upcoming latest songs. They were so good with the first self-titled album and then their second, Love Drunk. Their songs helped me through the tough times of high school, through the ups and the downs. I am sadden by the depart of Bryan, who claimed he got kicked out. But the moment he changed his twitter handle from @BryanBLG to @BryanEMB, I felt as though he no longer want to be associated with Boys Like Girls. So, yes. It seemed like his choice, wasn’t it?

Welcome back, Boys Like Girls. You have been severely missed.

Water Marbling: Finally successful!

I actually gave up on water marbling after a disappointing first attempt and a not very successful second attempt. But I have been getting visits to my post on water marbling during my first attempt and it has reached thousands of views already. Quite an achievement for me, so I thought why don’t I give it a try again.

Thankfully, I did and it worked during the first time itself. I’ll be sharing some quick tips on which polish I used. Though, this post is a quickie and I’ll be posting up a full length tutorial once I get my hands on more of Sally Hansen nail polishes! Oh yes, Sally Hansen’s are the only polish that seems to work for me. I have yet to try OPI.

I only have two Sally Hansen’s polishes (Blue It and Green with Envy) at that time, which explains for the weirdly colour combination. Wait till I get my hands on more polishes, then you’ll be seeing better colour combination!

Quick Tips

The water for the nail art should be lukewarm. If it’s cold, most likely the polishes would harden faster.
Use cello tape to tape the edges of the finger so that it won’t end up looking like my finger. :)

Flawed beauty.

Two weeks plus since I last blogged, damn. This semester, I’m simply laden with far too many exams, issues and stress. Blogging has taken a back seat on my priorities. But, today, I’ve had it and I decided to have my another Walk in The Park shutter therapy.

It started out quite disappointing, with the insects flying all over when I tried to take a picture. I kept walking till I passed by a row of neatly trimmed bushes. A few stalks of pink flowers caught my attention, but only for a moment. I walked on straight. A few steps after, I stopped and looked back. There was something about the flowers that was not quite right. It was imperfect, such is the wrath of the insects.

The flower is flawed. It is not hideous, just flawed. Like us all.

Sally Hansen: Blue It Swatch.

I have not been posting or doing nail arts as often as I liked, simply because I’m just too laden with studies these days. Seeing that I’m taking two papers at one go! So, you imagine double the stress I had from the last semester. But when I received another Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear nail polish in the mail, I simply couldn’t wait to apply it and do a review up.

Here’s a teaser picture of the nail polish. It’s called Blue It, from the picture you can see that it is a shade of sapphire blue. And would you believe if I told you that my thumb didn’t have any top coat on? :) Oh, yes. It is that shiny on its own. I have previously swatched Green with Envy, from the same Xtreme Range. And I must admit, that the nail polish did not disappoint but instead left me more impressed than ever. The formulation remain the same consistency seen in the Green with Envy swatch earlier.

Review: I was particular impressed with this series, having reviewed the Green with Envy nail polish from the similar range (Sally Hanse Xtreme Wear Series) the last time. The sapphire coloured polish contains some glitters, so it is not of single flat tone. Also, I thought the colour was pretty intense, in fact two coats provided sufficient coverage. This time around, I have gotten used to the brush and I was able to glide the polishes a bit more easier compared to the first time. Though I still have gotten used to how small the cap was and how long the stick was, I still felt that it was easy enough to apply the polish comfortably.

I have to admit that the colour is really gorgeous and frankly, I wouldn’t have bought this colour as I usually stuck to the pastels. But it’s a daring colour, one that would attract tonnes of attention from the girls.

Are you girls getting bored with the nails on m lips pose yet? :P Haha, I kinda like the effect of my naked face against my eye popping nails. I didn’t have that many picture for this post, mainly because it started getting cloudy and my pictures ended up being too blurry. Next time, I’ll be sure to shoot when the sun is up!

From FreshKon, the Alluring Eyes Range.

I dare say that it is not uncanny to find most girls wearing coloured contacts these days, especially those lens that are able to make the eyes look bigger. I have stumbled upon these so call Korean Geo Lens, going at about RM 25 per pair which is pretty cheap but I heard some warnings that the ink from the lens could come out. :O Because of that, I was kind of afraid of wearing coloured contacts….. that was of course before I came across FreshKon cosmetic contact lens that comes with power.

I was particularly interested in the Alluring eyes range because of the natural shades available. As much as I would love to have bigger eyes, I didn’t one to come across looking like Ju On or rather, a ghost, with eyes far too huge.

So, out of the four shades available, I chose Winsome Brown seeing my eyes are of slighter darker brown. I was hoping that the lens would bring up the brown in my eyes. Do you think the lens managed to do so? :) I felt the lens look really natural and it is almost like my eyes were really of that light brown shade.

Here is a close up picture of the lens, and how the lens look on my eyes.

The lens from this range features a full circle print, resulting in a bigger and brighter eyes with a high water content (55%) for better comfort. And I must say, it is pretty comfortable and I didn’t experience a slight sting or blurred vision at the edges (as these are pretty normal for first time coloured contacts wearer). I found the lens really soft as well compared to my usual lens, it is close to being flimsy but not quite there yet. You can wear the lens for more than 8 hours too, thankfully!

Yellow Polka Dotted Nails; DIY steps.

I’ll be honest and say that I have left my nails bare, naked for a few weeks or so, since I have absolutely no inspirations or even the mood to do them. Too much have happened; I’m dealing with my best friend leaving, exams and what not. But, one fine day, I just did my nails. It was one of the most simple nail art, something anyone could have done. Polka dotted nails!

I thought it would be too much to paint the whole nail and make it polka dotted hence, I did it in a somewhat similar way of a French manicure. I didn’t paint any nude polish, I merely painted the tips with Etude House yellow polish and dotted them with a black polish also from Etude House.

As you can see, the lines are not really neat as I would like them too only because of the stickers I used this time around. Like I mentioned earlier, this is a super simple nail art, hence the stickers I used are really common and you wouldn’t need to buy them from any nail specialty shop even.

For this post, I have decided to include a few DIY steps since the nail art is really really simple! You even can do it now.

Polka Dotted Nails

You’ll need:

Two nail polish of any colour of your choice (One for the base and another for the dots)
Tooth picks
Reinforcement rings (the sticker you use when your punched paper is tearing apart)

Oh, yeaaa. That is all you need. It is really that simple.

Ta-da! This is the amazing stickers I used for to help me outline the tips of my nails. You’ll just need to stick it on your nails like how I did it here.

Tip: Do press on the edges, if not the outline would not be neat as seen in the second picture above.

And this is how the polka dot is done using a toothpick; you don’t need a dotting tool specially for dots as the toothpick works fine!

Firstly you’ll need to coat the toothpick with your desired nail polish till it forms a huge glob (like in the picture).
Then, you’ll just need to lightly press against your nail. I demonstrated this on a piece of paper (since my nails were done already) to show you that the dot created will slightly bulge out.

Tip: Give it some time to dry before you apply a top coat. Also, a thick nail polish is preferably to be used, since it wouldn’t drip so easily. :)

Somehow, my nails remind me of a band aid that I have conveniently plastered on the tip on my nails. Haha. If it is not that, it also reminds me of leopard prints. :)

I could vividly remember what I said a few weeks ago to my friend. That time, she was pretty upset and was dealing with a number of farewells; you see her friends are leaving to study abroad. I didn’t really mean to rub it in or anything, I just innocently stated that my best friend would never leave. And that I would probably never have to go through what she went through.

But life, as it always do, surprises you when you least expects it. Never would it have came across my mind that my best friend would be leaving for UK. The odds of that happening? 0.00001%. Somehow rather, she got lucky (as she would have preferred to say it) and off she goes to UK for four freaking years. I really can’t imagine what I’d do without her, especially on those days when I am down. Talking to her always always always makes me feel better, no other person can replicate that.

We can talk on the phone for hours. We can also not talk, but just hang on the phones… minding our own business, doing our own stuff but bugging each other when we’re bored. We called it comfortable silence (since no one is talking). I know for sure, I will miss her so much. There is Skype and Facebook, but to be honest, it’s just not the same.

As I’m typing this, I’m this close bawling my eyes out. I know it is totally pointless to cry since it is not like she was leaving this world, she is just going to another country. So, maybe I can’t see her in person but she will be back. But still, it is not the same. Maybe I’m afraid I might lose her.

I hope not.

Erm, I think they are mating, right?

I never meant to intrude these insects’ privacy, really. I just came across them during one of my Shutter Therapy session at the park. And I really couldn’t miss such an opportunity like that. I mean how often do you get to see insects mating. I was surprised that I was able to get a nice clear shot since it was windy and the leaf was shaking. I was afraid that they might just fly off since I’m there but they didn’t. :)

I read Robin Wong's post on his thoughts of photography with great joy, what he wrote was something I could personally relate to. This is an excerpt of his post;

"I have shot at that street already, I don't think there is anything interesting left to photograph." Same street or place, may have different people and activities at different times. Walking down the same street the second time will give you different subjects. Also, you may be more open to different opportunities, since you are already familiar with the street. Going to the same place to shoot again can help to improve your photography, because you can approach your subjects differently, with a different lens and perspective, or different shooting style. Nothing is the same in each shooting session, you decide your own variety.

Before reading his post, I wanted to walk to the park and shoot. But I hesitated, since I’ve been there at least three times to shoot already and there were probably nothing interesting there. However, after reading it, I thought why not. I mean, just give it a try. I might be surprised.

Shot was taken after it rained, around 5pm where the sky was still clear.. albeit being slightly cloudy.

Indeed, I was. Unexpectedly, I managed some shoots which I thought was pretty okay for a novice photographer with a compact camera. To be honest, I try not to put myself down by thinking that I can’t take good pictures with a compact. Because Canon S90 is a pretty awesome camera.. I’ll let the pictures do the talking.

For this picture, I actually had trouble trying to find an angle. Even after I took a few shots, I wasn’t satisfied but I settled for this anyway. What do you think of it?

I’m only going to post these two pictures this time and save the other two for later. Hehe, so do look out for the pictures. Frankly, looking back at those pictures, I have improved in term of the composition of the subject and all the other photographic aspects. What do you think? Tasting Session at Gong Cha, SS15 - (Preview of New Drinks!)

These days, bubble milk tea is all the craze and there have been countless shops mushrooming around the city. I cannot deny that I have not caught on the craze, in fact I have declared my loyalty to one particular brand, Gong Cha! And if you must know, there is this other famous and expanding rapidly brand, that I don’t buy from anymore. Simply because they came out with the milk mousse foam that I first drank in Gong Cha, and frankly, their version tasted like vomit. And since then, I don’t buy from Chatime anymore. Heh.

Anyway, I’ve been lucky enough to be able to attend the tasting event, not knowing what was in store except to try out some of Gong Cha drinks. It was a rather informal event, as we were brought to the back of the shop in SS15 where we sat at the table and stools. Then, we were presented with a menu! But we can’t choose anything from it as we would be served everything from it.

And this is the menu, peeps! They had it like a real one, with appetizers, main courses and even dessert!

We were served in small plastic cups, nothing fancy but in the end, it is what the cup holds which was more important. Duh! But I have to admit, I found it a little hard to take pictures since plastic cups aren’t exactly appetizing and interesting. Hehe. And also, I didn’t manage to take pictures of all the drinks. They look a bit bland and boring.

Fresh Milk with Herbal Jelly. I’m not a fan of fresh milk because of the smell but this drink wasn’t overwhelming with that smell, and the herbal jelly as usual is amazing. But this isn’t my favourite drink, and honestly, I wouldn’t buy it simply because there are better options!

Milk Tea with Pudding & Red Bean. To be honest, when I first saw pudding, I was very sceptical about it. I mean come on, how can you put in pudding with milk tea? Talk about a mumbo jumble of taste. But surprisingly, the pudding went really well with the milk tea! It is super soft and smooth like the herbal jelly. Red bean was meh, so-so since I am not a fan of it. For me, the red bean was a neutral add on. Some would love it, some won’t but I’m just okay.

Matcha Milk with Red Adzuki Bean. If you don’t know what matcha is, well it is basically green tea! Well, the colour is an obvious telltale that it’s green tea. I love green tea, but I wouldn’t welcome this drink with my open arms because I’m not so used to drinking a sweeter green tea and there is red beans. I’m beginning to hate red beans already. But the drink is okay, and would have been better if there were pearls or herbal jelly.

Gong Cha Herbal Jelly with Pearls. This is actually not a drink but a milk based dessert. Let’s just say milk isn’t really my thing, so I didn’t like this one because the milk is too creamy for my liking. If I’m not mistaken, the milk here is actually the milk foam used in the Signature Milk Tea. This dessert is apparently very popular in Taiwan.

My favourite drink from this session is actually Earl Grey Milk Tea with 3J’s. I didn’t take a picture of the drink, but I have to say it is the most awesomest drink! Guess why? Because there is herbal jelly, pearls and pudding all in one fantastically awesome milk tea. At the best part of it, was that I got to take home the drink (full size!). Hehe.

The tasting session was just pure heaven for a loyal Gong Cha fan, and I really cannot thank Gong Cha Malaysia enough for the opportunity to attend the event. :{)

Vintage Camera Wish List.

So, I was browsing as usual and I wouldn’t believe what I stumbled upon! Vintage polaroid cameras! I know that they have been around for ages but to be honest, I have never seen one in picture or in actual. And they just look so gorgeous and one-of-a-kind, which makes me want to have one! Now, top on my list of cameras to get are a polaroid, then a Nikon D7000, then maybe Micro Four Thirds and last, a lomo camera!

Hmm, since my birthday is over already, can I have these for my Christmas present?

I find myself wishing, willing time to just miraculously turn back just so it could happened the way I wanted it to be. But it would not, so I’m left with either wistful thinking or learning to accept that past mistakes make me the person I am today. Most often than not, I find it hard to accept that past events is a past and there are the futures one that was worth the time pondering upon.”

I think this post is a bit rather overdue as I had a short photoshoot quite some time ago with Alex. This wasn’t a fashion shoot or anything, we just decided for sort of a test shoot. Hence, the extremely plain and boring outfit which kind of makes me look like I’m anorexic. :S Note to self – Never wear spaghetti tops for shoots!

Also, if you must know, it was my first time so I must admit that my expression wasn’t one of the best out there. Hahaha. But I did have a lot of fun, despite the mosquitoes (11 bites!). Shots were taken near the Bukit Jalil LRT with Panasonic GF1 and a few lenses which I do not know the specifications. Heh.

I’ve got two more pictures which I thought was really nice and would be such a waste if I didn’t post it up here as well. These portraits were taken recently when we got to meet up over lunch. Honestly, I almost always never have the confidence when my pictures are being taken. Simply because I would smile too widely which would end up with me looking ugh-lee. Yes, please. Someone can just smack me and tell me I’m too bloody self conscious already. (Confession: To be honest, I never really liked the face of my shape, chubby cheeks! But I have learnt to accept it now. I’m 19 and it is already time to look in the mirror and shift from saying ‘Can I have a sharper face?’ to ‘This is my face.’) Heh.

Sally Hansen: Green with Envy Swatch.

I’m seeing green these days, what colour are you seeing? (There was inside joke going around with the girls from college about seeing colours. Haha.) Anyway, I have always loved the green colour and the shades of it too. So, I must say that I was happy when I got to review the Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in the colour of “Green with Envy”.

I have to say that I love this shade of green; it is a cheerful and happy colour. If I’m feeling bored, I’ll just look at my nails and I would just smile. (I’m not crazy or anything, but the colour is so bright, you will to.)

Would you believe if I told you that I didn’t have top coat on in this picture? :)

Review: Of all the nail polishes that I have, I don’t actually have one by Sally Hansen. Perhaps one of the reasons was due to the lack of choices in colour (that was available in Malaysia but in US, there is a plenty) and also, I have no idea where to find them.

But I have never been happier to welcome this amazing polish into my collection, mainly because the colour is simply gorgeous. Besides that, this polish is slightly on the thick and creamy side. So, two coats (in the picture, I used two coats as well) would be enough to give a clear and opaque finish. However, it is also prone to air bubbles so you’ll have to be careful and apply thinner and lighter strokes. And I also didn’t really like the brush for the polish (or maybe it just need time to get used to.. since it is quite different from the rest). The brush is thick but not as flexible as I would like it to, and because of that, it is quite hard to apply the polish on the sides of my nails. And oh, this polish is surprisingly easy to remove despite how highly pigmented it was. So much more loves for the polish because of that is a major plus point for me.

Anyway, this polish is from the Xtreme Wear series, so I decided to wear the polish without the top coat to see how long it would last without peeling off or even chipping off. Right now, I'm at Day Three of the polish and it still looks almost as good as new (albeit less shiny since there is no top coat). I'll be posting some follow up pictures for you to see the difference after a few days (maybe weeks?) with the polish.

This polish is almost perfect, it’s shiny without a top coat and it lasts so long! The only downside, is that it stays on pretty for such a long time that I don’t have a chance to change my nail polish.

Sept 11, 2011 – Virgin trip to Euro Deli.

9/11 is one of those Earth changing moments simply because our world with all its 6 billion people would never live their lives the same way again. Many were greatly affected, others maybe not so much. 10 years on, life have changed. 10 years back, I knew of 9/11 through the midnight news. I was too young to understand it, but nevertheless knew it was something huge. 10 years later, I am thankful to be with my family celebrating my birthday (although very much belated). I do hope, that there will never be a repeat of the similar tragedy.

Let’s put aside our sombre mood. Fancy some German sausages?

Have you heard of Euro Deli? According to Dad, it’s one of the best place for German sausages. And I’ve been craving for some for the past few years.. Hahaa. It was that long.

As soon as you’re seated, you will be served with Foccacio Buns or simply known as bread roll with two types of butter. I’d recommend salted ones, because the unsalted ones are really tasteless. (Any additional rolls are at RM1.50 each.)

Seeing that I’ve been craving for these sausages since forever, I decided on a Mixed Sausage Platter (with 4 types). It comes with a side of potato salad with a slice of boiled egg and sauerkraut. For the sausages, I chose Hungarian sausage, Farmer’s Bratwurst, Emmenthaler sausage and Pork Ring Sausage with Kessler Ham. Of the four, the best one was the Hungarian as it was juicy and bouncy. I would recommend that and also the Emmenthaler if you’re a fan of cheese. Farmer’s Bratwurst is just as tasty but softer. I would not recommend the Pork Ring Sausage with Kessler Ham because its meat is not firm; taste wise, nothing fantastic there.

Daddy decided to order a Mixed Roast after recommendations from several food blogger and also because he has been secretly craving for it. This consists of 3 parts of the pig; belly, knuckles and the ribs. Served with stewed red cabbage and mashed potatoes topped with dark brown sauce. Eating this was downright sinful, the belly has a layer of fat but the taste is simply divine, so much that I can forgo my health conscious diet, for a few hours that is.

My younger brother ordered this, I think it was the cheese and the fries that got his attention. This is one of the Chef’s Recommendations, Cervela Sausage. The sausage is stuffed with cheese and wrapped with bacon. It is perfect for cheese lovers, but the excitement doesn’t end there as the tomato is filled with cheese dips! I didn’t get to try this, but from the way my brother was chugging down is food, it can only mean it’s too delicious!

We also ordered another Mixed Sausage Platter, three sausages here; Vienna, Farmer’s Bratwurst and Hungarian! From now on, I declare that I am only going to eat Hungarian Sausages. Like seriously, I really am. It is that freaking good!

If I wasn’t so stuffed after the meal, I would have bagged home a few packets of the Hungarian sausage! Yes, you can buy these sausages off the shelf there, bring them home and the German cuisine continues in the comfort of your own home.

Not Like The Movies Swatch + Black Shatter

This picture feels like I’m doing a promo for OPI Katy Perry’s Collection. Haha, I wish. It looks pretty neat, right? Opted back for an indoor shoot, smoother background. Heh.

The earlier picture makes this picture look so plain, in comparison. Didn’t want to overdo the whole fonts and all, the focus should be on the nails!

Review: Obviously, today’s polish is from OPI Katy Perry’s Collection named Not Like The Movies. This is one of my first OPI polish together with the Black Shatter. I didn’t do a swatch or review on it mainly because I was too busy with my nail art. Finally decided to do it today, after a few months since I bought it.

So anyway, back to the polish. Since I was an OPI virgin, I was surprised at how smooth the application was. Also the brush was thick, makes it easier since there are better coverage with each stroke. In terms of the colour of the polish, it is a holographic one! That means it changes colour in different angles and lighting. From the bottle, it looks metallic greyish. But once applied, it has a hint of green and purple hue with tiny speckles of glitter. And brush strokes were very subtle and not obvious.

And here, you can see a more obvious green hue.

I find myself staring at my nails and just getting lost in it, because the colours are ever changing and it feels like I’m staring into a galaxy. The tiny sparkles are like little stars. Here are a few more pictures!

And now, meet Black Shatter. I am sure you would familiar with this polish, who wouldn’t? OPI was the first one to mass produced and reintroduced the whole shatter nail polish. I have taken a few more pictures and you can totally see the different colours there is in Not Like The Movies!

To be honest, I wouldn’t recommend the Black Shatter polish because it dries up way too fast! :( I have used like say, for less than 10 times only and *poof* it is gone. Damn. I really loved the shatter design. I would probably consider buying a another brand. Will see how it goes along, though I am afraid that the same thing might happened.

Nasi Lemak Bumbung @ SEA Park

I have never been a late night dinner/supper person, but when mom doesn’t cook dinner that night, I really haven’t got much choice. So, I bugged Dad to bring me out to eat (was actually craving for duck rice and ikan bakar) but Dad decided to try out the Nasi Lemak at SEA Park as shown in the 8tv’s Best in The World programme.

It is actually a food programme whereby they preview the amazing good food in Malaysia.

Meet the nasi lemak (RM 4.50).

The sambal served was different than the usual one and it goes really well with the rice. The rice was just of a nice texture, not too starchy and moist. But the portion of the rice was incredulously little. You can barely see the rice in the picture. However, other than the rice and the sambal, everything else on the plate pretty much sucked. The chicken was tasteless and slightly burnt. The nuts was burnt to the core and the anchovies are just plain salty. As for the egg…. nothing fantastic there.

So, I would say that this nasi lemak is not the worst in the world but it is definitely not best in the world, as endorsed by the show. Either that, or the place lacked in quality control. :(

But one thing I’m amazed with the place was that it was behind a back lane of the shops! Very brightly lit and does not smells. And the normal nasi lemak (as shown above) arrives as soon as you’re seated. Haha, there is no need to order!

I’m having doubts whether I would consider going back there or not but if you wish to try it out, here is the address. Do tell me if you have other comments on the nasi lemak!

Sparkly Purple [Stamping + Shatter]

Can you just see how gorgeous this colour is? It’s sparkly, something new for me, as I would prefer polishes without all the glitter.

Review: Today nail polish is from Etude House (PP007). The only reason why I got this polish was because I fell in love with it while Tumblr-ing (someone reposted this and I saw it). When I saw the picture, I couldn’t really believe that it was from Etude House. Hence, I had to buy it myself and try it. So, yes and from the pictures, the polish looks amazing! It has a bit of holographic effect. In terms of the application, it was superb. Very smooth, with fairly thicker than the usual Etude brush for the petite series. And my nails have three coats, although two coats would suffice.

And this is how it’ll look under the sun. Opted to have an outdoor shoot this time as the sun will bring out the sparkle in this polish. As you can see, I have stamped my nail as well! Haha, I managed to get the nail stamping kit for a steal! RM 12.90 from Times Square.

This is the image plate that I have used, M36. (And I tried stamping with the Thistle polish from Elianto, but the colour didn’t really turn out as I expected.) And oh, you don’t really need to use special polishes to stamp.

And this is my stamper with the scrapper. The metal one apparently works better, but it scratches my metal plate as well. :(

I couldn’t resist adding in another picture of my nails. Though, I should not have stamped with the black polish, cause it doesn’t bring out either colour much. Maybe a lighter shade would look better?

And this is how it’ll look with the OPI Black Shatter. To be honest, this wasn’t one of the best picture cause I took it in a rush. Anyway, I wanted to say how disappointed I am with the Black Shatter. Barely like a few months after I got it, it already started drying up! D: Sighs.

So sorry for the absence; am so busy with nerd-ing for my tests these days. To be honest, I don’t even think I studied this much for the SPM. Anyway, since I’m finally done with the test today (not the last ones, though), so I thought I ought to post a nail art that I have done not-so-recently.

(See in-set), those were my inspiration for this round of nail art. :)

So, one day I was surfing the Internet, browsing some fashion stuff online (as usual) and I just stumbled upon this ring (as shown in the picture above) and the first thing that came to mind was a potential nail art design! OMB, right? There on, I started designing. Yes, designing. I’ll show you my sketches one day. Haha, I’m still sketching for future nail art. These are my little projects. I’ve even have a crazy thought of setting up a online shop to sell my designs; painted of course on the fake nails. Anyone up for that?

The polishes I used for this nail art is from FaceShop and Etude House. From FaceShop, I used WH002 (White) and BR801 (Nude). From Etude House, I used WH706 (Black) and PP007 (Purple). I have also used stickers for the nail art.

By the way, I am currently wearing the glittery, holograhic purple polish. Am super in love with it. <3 I’ll be posting up a swatch on that soon. That’s all, loves!

Watermelon Nail Art x [Sally Hansen’s Funky + Chic Contest]

Hi girls! I realised it’s been some time since I lasted posted a nail art or even swatches. :O I haven’t even done the swatches for OPI Not Like The Movies. Pardon me, I have been busy with studies and a nail art contest by Sally Hansen Malaysia. Yea, I’ve been designing a nail art which suits the theme given; Funky + Chic. In the end, I decided on a watermelon inspired nails since I’m all for cute, mini food accessories.

If you had to pick one out of the four nails, which one is your favourite? I have to heart the first one from the left. That really looks like a slice of watermelon. I didn’t want to create a similar design for each nail as I thought it would be too boring and predictable. Hence, you get this. :D

Shutter therapy. There is nothing like having a good alone time through some shutter therapy. The easiest place I’d go for a photowalk would be the park near my house. It may look like a pretty normal park with nothing interesting enough to shoot, but trust me, if you look carefully and slowly, you’ll be able to get some unique shots. Like this furry leaves. :)

My Worst Fear of Shopping Online

It is midnight now and hours ago, I received an email saying that my pre-order bag has finally arrived. After a one month of worrying whether my bag was ever going to arrive, I’m glad this ordeal is over. Maybe calling it an ordeal is an overstatement, but trust me, if you’re in my shoes, that would be an understatement!

It all started out when I was browsing blogshops randomly and then I stumbled upon this website that sells awesome pre-order bags! And, my, was I in love. I wanted to order everything from that blog! But I managed to refrain myself (if not I swear I will be having sleepless nights!) and ordered only one bag. Deep down, maybe I felt that the website was a dodgy one, but despite that I went ahead and ordered it anyway (the bag is too pretty!).

A few emails were exchanged (as this was the usual communication mode for blogshops) and in a rush to meet the pre-order dateline, I made the payment. On the same day, I was replied and informed that my bag will arrive in 12 working days once the order is made. Little did I know, that the bag took one month to arrive. I wouldn’t have mind waiting if she told me that it might take longer time to arrive. Ethically, if there have been a delay, the buyers should be informed. I wasn’t.

What made it worst was that I didn’t receive any replies for the many many emails I sent in. That sent me to the edge, I thought, “What if it’s a fly by night blogshop?”. I am doomed, for sure then. Which of course, I thanked God now that it isn’t and I’ll be picking up the bag tomorrow. Let’s wish me luck that she would be there as she promised.

There is something about this picture that emits a rather sombre mood, don’t you feel so?

Personally, shooting in the shadows is awesome. Why? Simply because it can’t capture the facial expression. Quite ironic to say so, as facial expressions are quite crucial for portraits. But I do feel, body movements and posture are just important to make a picture great. I think the pictures in this set is a form of creative photography. What do you think? ;)

Again, I’ll say that this impromptu shoot has been pure fun for myself and Kim. I’ll be honest and say that I find myself getting conscious whenever I’m in a photoshoot. Somehow, I always imagined the picture would turn out ugly. Hence, the lack of confidence would show in the pictures too. :( But for this shoot, screw my expression cause you can’t see my face. Hahaa.

Simply, because I have no mood to study. :O

Your eyes are the brightest of all the colours. – Thunder, Boys Like Girls. I absolutely heart that song <3 and my nails simply reminds me of that one liner from the song. I mean there is definitely no doubt that my nails are painted in one of the brightest shade of colours. :) Don’t you feel like smiling when you see these beauties? Certainly feels like sunshine to me. What do you think?

I love this shot, like a lot. :) Idea just popped out to put a ruler there to show just how high these heels are. But to be honest, they are just medium-high heels. I haven’t got platform heels yet, or else I would have used those instead. And I hope no one takes offence with the caption in the picture. I don’t mean to insult anyone yea. Because to be honest, I love wearing heels, especially when the occasion is right. Cause I’m not that tall myself. :)

Inglot Launch Party!

Thanks to Advertlets, I have been given a chance to attend the Inglot official launch party! I didn’t really take much pictures. Somehow, I wasn’t really in the mood to party that day. (What a waste! They even had champagne and all.)

Inglot’s Freedom System, which allows you to mix and match (for example; eye shadows) according to your liking.

Purple eye shadows and body shimmers. Inglot is really really colourful, I tell you!

I think these were gel eye shadows? I’m not sure cause I didn’t ask further. Sowee.

Thisispurelove, I tell you! So many colours to choose from, you’ll be spoilt for choice, like I did.

Had a manicure done on the spot. Unfortunately, the girls there aren’t that good in mani. :( But nevertheless, there extremely helpful! :) Tried the matte top coat. I don’t like it. Original polish, was so much more gorgeous.

And… Amber Chia + baby graced the launch party! Woot, she is so tall!

Back from Clinique Star Tour!

Like I mentioned earlier, I headed over to the Clinique Star Tour last weekend and boy, did I have a blast. Despite the fact that I was suffering from a major food poisoning. :S I literally dragged myself out of bed after popping a few charcoal pills and fever meds. And to make things worst, Dad dropped us off at Sunway Pyramid when the glorious sun is high up and it’s freaking 40 degrees Celsius outside! (Maybe I exaggerated a bit.)

There is the Mobile Makeover Studio and in the other tent, is for the door gift redemption.

Since the event was outdoor, I was already sweaty and looking flushed by the time I was trying to register myself. The Clinique staff actually came over with an umbrella to shade my sis and I. Talk about getting treated like a star! :) After that, I got my RM 35 voucher and I had to fill up the form although I was mentally incoherent with my body.

This is the form that will be given to Clinique staff to fill in the which products they used for the makeover. And the bottom part is submitted to them for the contest.

Before the makeover over, they will apply moisturiser and then teach you how to use them. :)

This is how the mobile studio looks like. There are a few make up station and another two for the hair touch up.

I really loved the makeover that Clinique has done and I love how the staff there were all so friendly and nice to us. In fact, my sister and I were so amazed that we forgot our door gift! Haha, of course we went back to get them. Inside, there was a Cleo magazine, RM 50 worth of Miko Gelare vouchers, Clinique’s; liquid facial wash, clarifying lotion, moisturising lotion, super city block and volumizing mascara! All worth about RM 130!

Cheese filled pies are god damn sinful. But I don’t care anymore, because I am on a weight gain diet. :D Seriously, I’ve been losing weight faster than I can say what the hell. So, I’m eating carbohydrate, protein and whatever that can help me gain weight healthily. And no, fat is not one of them. [I only weigh 40 freaking kilos now.]

Growing up isn’t necessarily fun [Life = So much simpler back then!]. When I was younger, I used to dream a lot. I don’t really remember what was it exactly, but I do know that I wanted to be somebody famous! And now, the inner child in me is tempted to go and grab the chance to become a supermodel wannabe! Uh-huh, because the Clinique Star Tour is back in 2011. I didn’t manage to catch them in 2010, so for sure I was going to attend this one.

I know that this is totally random, so please do bear with me. *flashes toothy smile* You would probably be seeing more of these random one picture filler post, simply because it was the holidays a few weeks back and I basically took picture of things around the house that interests me. Which is why I’m going to start a Random Monday post from now onwards, so it’ll seem okay to post totally random pictures on my blog. What a ingenious way, I’m such a genius (this rhymes!).

In The Garden; Meet the Pink Beauty.

Before you go, “Not another pink themed pictures?!”, hear me out first. :) These pictures are not edited for the dragonfly to be pink in colour. It is purely the natural colour of the dragonfly; the only thing I did to the pictures was to post-process and enhance it a little to make the pink pop out a little more. Or else, the pictures would turn out rather bland as it was taken under direct sunlight.. so and so and so (you get my point).

The first shot was a spontaneous one, since I wasn’t actually planning to take a picture of the it. I managed another shot, which was quite similar, so I didn’t post that up. Then I actually tried to take a better shot of it, and the second picture was the best I could get. Because somehow, I think the dragonfly now knows I’m taking a picture of it and so, it doesn’t even land long enough for me to get my angle. :S Oh well, I thought these two shots were actually okay.

Oh, how time flies. Thinking back, I could still remember the first day of my class. We were so quiet and everyone actually did the homework on the spot, during break time. HAHA. Now, that is so rare. As a class, we have been through a lot. Personally, I don’t recognize myself back then. I know, I’ve changed so much. College, is definitely one of the major turning point in my life. Heartache, a plenty but happy moments were always abundant. And now, after a year and a half, we will be moving on to ICAEW. So proud, that we made it this far. :)

Sparkly Purple + Heart Shaped Mani

I have always love purple; I do have a few polishes of that shade. But sadly, I hardly wear these because there are so pastel. Oh-so-very-bland, and not striking; like my other polishes. Hence, they were neglected. So, one day, just out of the blue I decided to paint my nail with Elianto’s Thistle. However, the texture has since changed since I bought it one year ago. It turns out very streaky and being the perfectionist I am, I had to do something about it. I layered my nails with a gorgeous sheer, teeny weeny sparkly purple polish from Face Shop. And just like that, I fell in love with my nails. Also, I decided to leave my ring finger free from shatter polish, as an accent nail.

Do you like love my heart shaped manicure? Please tell me you do, because I am in love with it! It was actually inspired from Katy Perry nails during her performance of “Not Like The Movies” at the 2011’s Grammys (picture inset)! It so cute and very easy to do, I used stickers as guidelines and voila! :) I’m going to make more heart themed manicures, so look forward to those yea?

Extra Info: To be honest, I never really like Elianto’s polishes. Their brushes are far too tiny, it’s hard to apply when you have long nails. Oh, I also face the same problem with Etude House petite series. What about Face Shop?! I love Face Shop brushes, theirs are thick just OPI, which makes them super easy to apply on.

Woots! The pink themed photography project is finally done. Yay for me, because I procrastinated so much, it dragged on to weeks just to finish up the project. And now, looking back, I realised I could have finished them in a flash if I wanted it. Blah. And suddenly I wished I took more pictures for the project because four pictures seem so little now! AH.

This project was inspired after the Pink Halter top I wore in the I See Pink! post. I went home, did some self portrait shots using Cammy, my Canon S90’s Colour Accent feature. I wanted only the pink in every picture to stand out, and that feature really helped me a lot. Of course, the pictures were then post-processed using a few photo editing software. I hope you enjoyed this post. I’m already working on another photography project already. :) Do keep a look out for that.

I See Pink!

About a few weeks ago, I decided to pull off a vintage sheer blouse with a pink lace halter top beneath it. I paired those up with a black skinnies and red belt. I thought it looked okay, until I went to college and my (guy) friends was like, “Err, what are you wearing?” or “It would have looked good without the pink top”. Even, my lecturer gave me the O.o look and asked me what and why I am wearing such an outfit. In case I got you curious enough about the outfit, here is a snapshot of it. Very impromptu, I shall forewarn you.

I know, you can’t really see the actual pink colour of the top here since I edited the picture.

So, the actual pink colour should be around this colour. Though, it is actually much softer in shade. I hope you get what I mean.

So, anyway, since the pink was such the big no-no in that outfit, I decided to swap it with a plain black spaghetti strap. I didn’t try it on, but instead I did take a picture of it.

So, this is how it would have looked like if I wore a black top on the inside instead of the pink one. And yes, I paired my earlier outfit with my patented snakeskin shoe. Hehe.

I got a feeling that if we do a vote, maybe you guys will still pick the black over the pink. I don’t know what you guys do that but I really want to know;

So, it was Father’s Day yesterday but It wasn’t much of a “Happy Father’s Day”. A little goes a long way; it is also true that a tiny issue can affect, so much as, to spoil a supposed beautiful day. How can we let a day, an hour, a second go by with so much unhappiness. Sometimes, we have to know when enough is enough. And to learn to let go.

The Weekend Filler Post.

So yes, the weekends have come and gone just like that. For the past 48 hours, I pretty much cannot recall much of anything useful that I had actually done. Yeap, I slacked off my weekends. Let just say it’s a bad habit of mine, because every time after I sat for any exams; be it a progress test, mock or finals, I must slack. Simply say, I’m really not in the mood to get back to the books. But I really have to, cause my final paper of an hour thirty minutes is on this coming Friday! And after that, I’m going to bogey down! Hehe. Anyway, I’ll post up a few pictures of what I ate and did during the weekends.

This is my Dad’s attempt at making Tom Yam Fish, it would have been a nice meal if it was not for the fact that the fish was bitter! Apparently, the guy who cleaned the fish accidentally cut the bile, hence the bitter taste stuck on the fish.

Can you see what I see? Mommy cooked a whole big fat juicy chicken for dinner! I have never been so happy before! Recently, mom hasn’t been cooking up some real delicious meals, maybe cause they take up a lot of time and effort. Nevertheless, the chicken was awesome! Hehe. Roast chicken is next. :)

I finally got to paint my right hand nails. Why finally? Simply because I loathe painting with my left hands, they always turn out ugly. Anyway, I just wanted to point out that the OPI Black Shatter looks almost ugly on short nails. :( Seriously. I’ll admit that I didn’t paint the shatter polish nicely but I really don’t like it on short nails. Wait, till you see them on my long nails in the upcoming Pink Campaign post! I swear you’ll love those.

So, which nail polish did I managed to get my hands on? It’s none other than the famous OPI Black Shatter! Yeap, I’ve got the Black Shatter polish and I’m loving it to bits.

This nail polish have officially became my favourite polish ever. I’m an OPI virgin, and this nail polish is my first.

The polish shatters in such uneven and unpredictable manner, but yet I love it. I love how each nail have a completely different pattern. I love how, it just look edgy so effortlessly. They shatter in very imperfect way, contrary to how I loved my nails to be smooth and flawless. Now, my nails have cracks. But it gives me a chance to let loose and be less obsessed about how flawed my nails become like; the morning after when I get bed nails or when I get air bubbles in them.

As you can see I was too excited to show you the nails, that I didn’t even cleaned off the edges of my nails. :) But like I said, the Black Shatter allows me to embrace imperfection and accept flaws. I love this polish! The easiest nail art ever! And oh, I’ve got another OPI nail polish to review on. That’s coming soon!

About a few days back, my sister had dragged me to the park and asked me to take some pictures for her. Well, she needed some pictures of herself for some high top secret stuff that she won’t allow me to whisper even a breath to anyone. So, yes. She decided to have the shoot at the park since it’s the most convenient place. I wasn’t sure how the shoot would go since I have zero experience in portrait photography. When I told my friends and family that I painted the French Mani’s evil twin sister, they just gave me the blank look. Only when I showed them what I did with my nails, they got what I mean. Well, you see, I was pretty bored when I did the French Mani, it’s elegant but boring and predictable. So, I thought of painting the tips in black. If you noticed, my right finger nails are the complete opposite of my left; it’s short and black. And evil. :P

These days we can rent just about anything; cars, rooms, houses, bags, clothes and now, homestay? Well, you read that right, it is homestay that you can rent. Have you ever heard of a homestay programme before?

home·stay (\ˈhōm-ˌstā\), : a stay at a residence by a traveller and especially by a visiting foreign student who is hosted by a local family

That was the definition of homestay from the Merriam-Webster dictionary. But these days, homestay aren’t just limited to foreign students. In fact, I’ve been on a homestay programme before and I got to stay in a ‘kampung’ house. I don’t want to sound ungrateful, but it was a bad experience for me as the house was filthy and dirty.

My semester break is just round the corner and I might be planning a trip to Penang. I was considering in staying in a hotel, well, that was at least until I stumbled upon Penang Homestay’s website. Now, I have decided homestay was the way to go. Why the sudden change of mind, you ask?

Well, you see, the homestay I’m talking about is not the usual homestay programme or what not. It’s basically a short term rental of a room or a house, if you’re travelling in a big group. Take this condominium I spotted for example.

It’s a resort condominium, full with various facilities with 3 fully furnished bedrooms. I think it would fit a family of 5 comfortably. The idea is that instead of booking probably two or three hotel rooms, you can actually rent a condo unit for a few days. There is much more privacy and of course, you don’t have to cramp in a shoe box. I recall, my parents renting a condo unit before; I think it’s nicer that way than to stay in hotels. Plus, you’ll actually save some money. Guess how much the rental of this unit is?

Tada! Only RM 300, daily. That is way cheaper than a lot of hotel rooms! I mean if we’re talking about a family of 5. Based the screenshot captured from the website, you can actually check the availability of the unit. Yeap, how convenient, right?

Pssst, I checked the unit for June. And it’s available after my exams, where do you think I’ll be heading to then? :)

The Food Filler Post. [Part 2]

Hi hi! This will be a short filler post because I have an exam due this week and I haven’t studied yet. Well, I did try. But when I did the questions, ohmyholymama…. I got most of them wrong. So I figured I’ll take a break and blog a little because I simply miss blogging. :S

Anyway, this time, the filler post is about the lunch my mom cooked for the family. I’m not sure if you’ll classify them as Western or what… but actually I’m think it should be Western.

So, what is on my plate?

Beef meatballs! (My absolute favourite. I heart the Chinese and the Western version.)
Roasted garlic. (First time having them, and it might sound “Ugh, how can you eat the garlic just like that!” but it tasted really out of this world, unexpectedly.)
Hash browns! (Again, my first time eating them. You can say I’m ‘jakun’. Haha, this was good too!)
Black peppered hot dog. (Umm, so-so. Btw, anyone know of any restaurants that serve delicious German sausages? If you do know, would appreciate if you can drop a comment. I’ve been craving for them since forever.
Mashed potatoes. (Can I be bias and say that it is good because I smashed them? Well, I did use my bare hands to mash them up. But the seasoning credits should go to my mom and sis. They used mozzarella cheese, plenty of butter and black pepper, that equals to an out of this world mashed potatoes!)
Tomatoes and cucumber salad. (I hate tomatoes. So I don’t like this side dish.)

The Food Filler Post.

Does this awesome, deliciously looking bun looks familiar to you? Can I also say that the picture is heavily photoshopped? (You’ll know why at the bottom of the post) :P

Anyway, my mom decided to do a similar bun in the same fashion to please my brother, who has been bugging my mom to make them… since my parents aren’t bringing him to KFC for the AM Smart Breakfast. This is how she did it.

It’s pretty simple if you want to try to make it at home too actually. Here my mom used potato bun, but I wouldn’t recommend that as you’ll get a salty and sweet taste. A bit funky, actually. Haha, of course you can opt to use a normal bun. And also, my mom didn’t fry an egg, instead she fried up some chicken patties and place them in the buns! Taste pretty awesome, and it’s almost hassle free. Of course, you’ll need an oven to melt the cheddar cheese on the top.

And now, you’ll probably want to know why I said the KFC picture on the top was heavily edited, right? I’ll show you why.

Looks damn disgusting, right? And to think back the time when it was first introduced and I had so badly wanted to try them. But I never had the time, which I thanked God, I didn’t, now.

Black Shimmer Beauty.

Of all the nail arts that I have done, I must admit that I am absolutely in love with this nail design. It’s so simple, classic and elegant! Like the French Manicure, right?

Here is a closer look to the nail art design. Basically, I painted the shimmery white layer and then I painted a black polish over it. But Cammy didn’t manage to capture how shiny it really was; this picture was taken under sunlight anyway. And if you looked closely, you’ll be able to see streaks on black polish on my nails. This is cause I didn’t wait for the black polish to dry completely before applying my top coat! And also, I used stickers to guide me when I’m painting the shimmery layer but even then I didn’t manage to paint them in equal width. Haha, I so need more practice.

I’m thinking of replacing the black polish with a white one the next round, should I? :)

Meet my Pink Bias. :)

I have a few shades of pink polish but this colour has got to be my favourite colour of my collection. To be honest, this picture doesn’t really do much justice to the nail polish because the polish actually have a jelly like finish! And also, the colour is a sweet pink one, closer to the shade of a hot pink polish; but not quite as bright and striking as the hot pink. Out of boredom, I decided to paint a plus sign, + on my middle finger. I don’t really like it as it is a bit thick.

Don’t you start giving me those [O.o] look and wondering why I am browsing through property websites. I’m just planning for my future. :P

So, with me being bored these days; I have decided to do some research about my dream property which was the Suasana Sentral Loft. It is then that I have stumbled upon this ah-mazing Malaysia Property website, which have all the deatils of my dream home!

Here is the screenshot on the details of my dream home! All I need to do was key in a property in Malaysia that I’m interested in and voila! There is a short write up about the property and also the details about it. Besides that, the layouts of the property and also the facilities available can also be found on the website. Wow wow. These are exactly the information that I would need before buying any property and I can have it all just by browsing this website. And no, you have not seen it all yet. They even have a market trend for the property. In my case, I’m looking up on the Loft at KL Sentral and this is the market trend.

To be honest, I have no idea what this trend means but I think serious property investors would know what is it about. And the analysis on the property would be even more relevant to them.

Basically, the analysis given is from an independent point of view; like the background of the project, the problems and concerns of the buyer and even about the construction work. I like the way it was written; read the fourth paragraph.

This is what the Classifieds section looks like. I think most property websites also have this, I have seen my dad browsing through it before. But I quite like the layout for this website. Look! They even have a mortgage calculator. By the way, you can key in your own figures. I decided to calculate how much my instalment would be if I would to borrow a RM 1,000,000 loan (which is impossible, I know). Oh my, I would never have that much money to pay, even in instalment. *sobs*

Ooo, I found this amongst the many many pictures located in the Photos tab. There were like 37 pages of photos there, man. I think I don’t need to do an on site visit anymore. Just by browsing these pictures I would already know the place by heart! LOL. :)

Black(out)ed Pink Polish!

After a three months fast from applying bright polishes, I would like to announce that I am back, peeps! Uh-huh, uh-huh. Reason being for that fast was because I was interning in a professional firm, hence I don’t think bright nail polishes are a generally accepted work culture there? Nah, I also didn’t think it was suitable to apply bright polishes especially when I working with clients, I bet they will give me those sideways glance (which sometimes they already do, considering they are curious at just how young I am!)

Anyway, back to the nail polish. I have never painted my nails black simply because my mom seems to related black nails to gothic. So, instead of going all black, I just painted the tip of my nails. The outcome is as above, but I’m quite disappointed as it didn’t turn out that neat. Haha, I guess I just need more practice.

Coliseum Cafe, childhood memories.

“Established since 1921” :)

Oh, yes. The cafe has been around even before Malaysia was born. Till today, I could still vividly remember my first visit there ten years ago. I’m not surprise to see that the interior of the cafe still looks the same as it was. And I can bet that it will look just the same if I ever to visit there in another ten years time.

Meet the Coliseum Theatre. Still standing tall after so long.

As I passed by the theatre, I wondered if anyone still watched movies in there. I mean, were there even movies being shown there. If you’re just as curious as I am, yes, they still do. The ticketing counter and the entrance looked exactly like the olden days shows of Malaya.

Coat hangers! My, oh my. I was amused and amazed. Looks so Western-ish.

This reminds me of those pubs in the cowboy towns, seen only in movies (since I haven’t had the opportunity to visit Texas?)

Ambience and atmosphere aside, let’s talk about the food there. To be honest, I didn’t like the Chicken Chop as they served chicken breast. I always prefer the chicken meat near the thigh area. But I think the Grilled Lamb Steak is good. Can’t explain in detail as I only got a bite of it, but I can assure it that it is better than my Chicken Chop. As for the Chinese Style, it’s definitely not my type of dish. I never really like tomatoes to begin with and the sauce for the Chinese Style Chop was a tomatoes based one with peas. I hate peas.

Honestly, I can’t help but feel like I’m being transported back in time. They said the same thing about Sek Yuan, but I didn’t really feel it there. Somehow, this cafe feels closer to heart.

It is such a bliss to revisit the Coliseum Cafe. I never realised how much I missed that place. And I have also realised that now is truly the time when I can appreciate a timeless classic cafe like the Coliseum.

Water Marbling: 2nd Attempt!

Some time ago, I discovered the art of water marbling (read all about it here) and I decided to give it a try. However after multiple tries (in the first attempt), I have failed and yes, I gave up. However, a few weeks back, I had my girlfriends to come over for a manicure session at my place. The manicure session wasn’t all that successful. :( Maybe my choice of polish were too limited for their liking. As you know, I fancy bright striking colours. If it isn’t bright, it does not deserve a place in my nail polish collection.

Anyway, back to water marbling. One of the girls, Celia, decided we should try water marbling. So, she tried and tried a few times; and as usual the polish wouldn’t spread out. But but but, she finally did manage to do it and the result is as below! :)

As you can see it’s a bit messy and they are tiny air bubbles, but yes, in exchange for gorgeous marbling prints, you’ll have to deal with those flaws. However, you can put cello tape at the edge of your fingernails. It won’t get that messy then. After this successful attempt, the girls tried to recreate a similar water marbling but it didn’t turn out nice. Sighs. Why must water marbling be so hard?!

Ombré Attempt 1!

During the manicure session, I also tried out the ombré manicure. And again, it was a failure. But it’s okay, I’m so going to try it again! :)

Photowalking is the act of walking with a camera for the main purpose of taking pictures of things that the photographer may find interesting.

Started the day with an unassumingly delicious Hakka noodles. Why do I say so? Look at how plain the noodles are. It sure didn’t taste like plain noodles, in fact it’s really good.

My favourite shot! An accidental one, I would say. Initially I just wanted to take the fire hydrant, but the bus passed by and I thought why not take a picture of the hydrant, bus and all things yellow?

I don’t cuss. I am against profanities. Yet, today, I swore and cursed, in public.

I don’t usually “fcuk my life”, simple because I know they are many others in worse situations than mine, and even then, they don’t “fcuk their life”.

But today, I broke every one of that principles that I held on to.

All for a miserable 30 marks of my portfolio. The cause for this, is no one but me, myself and I. One tiny mistake, spurred out from my lazy, nonchalant attitude has brought all this upon me. So, yes, I would like to blame myself. Someone dear to me told me to not blame anyone, but to solve the problem and move on. Nope, I just did not have the courage to do that; I think I literally collapsed.

Hopefully gone, good riddance.

A walk in the park. [With Cammy] – Part 2

Considerably, the worst shot for today’s walk. I may sound a little too critical about my photographs - I know right. But this was shot without looking through my lens. I placed Cammy underneath the leaves and just snapped away. Actually looks fine-lar!

I know this is a super plain shot. But I took it because I just felt like it. It’s simple, nice and free from clutter. Ah, such a peaceful shot, don’t you think so?

Do you know what this reminds me of? The speck of dust which fell on the flower! From the movie, Horton Hears a Who! This flower certainly looked something like that.

And guess who I meet there at the park? A ladybug! I’m so happy! It’s my first time seeing one and I managed to see a baby one also, but too small for me to take a picture of. :D

I would have never found these little wonders if it wasn’t for my brother who kept pestering me to bring him to the park. Luckily he dragged me there because I was so bloody stressed out and annoyed with my portfolio, I could use the fresh air. And I came back home, feeling lighter and happier.

And, out of the blue when my brother was gaming, I showed him a picture of a guy with 6 packs. I said, “Kah Lok, you must look like that next time.” He said, “Ewwwwwww.”
