Beauty : All About the Althea’s Pore Purifying Serum Cleanser

In my latest post, I shared about how Althea have been on a roll, churning out beauty products one after another. It amazes me so much in terms of how the efficient the production line is from the idea to the concept to the R&D and of course, the final result! Althea has introduced yet another product which is the Pore Purifying Serum Cleanser which combines both a cleanser and serum! I’ll elaborate more on this cleanser in my review below but just wanted to share the links to all the other reviews of the Althea’s products here.

What is it?

It’s designed as a cleanser and serum which helps to remove make-up and impurities. The product dubbed as a beauty superhero by Althea whisks away makeup, dirt, and oil with mint extracts. The serum-like formula ensures that the skin stays cool and hydrated throughout the day with the dual moisture cell system the product was designed with. This product is gentle on the face and hence, it’s suitable for sensitive skin and helps balance the pH levels of the skin to keep it working in tip-top shape!

How to use?

The instructions have stated that the product is meant to be used by firstly wetting your face and then applying the product in small amounts. Then gently massage in circular motions for 5-10 seconds before rinsing off with water.

Thoughts

When it comes to the removal of make-up, we have seen the evolution of such cleanser as well as the many different variations of it. This version feels like it’s closer to micellar water where it’s clear, looks like water and feels like it as well. Of course, it’s not just water and when you apply the product on your face, you’ll find the make up dissolving.

To test how well it removes make up, I did a simple experiment with a cotton pad soaked with the product and a face with moderate make up on. I tested this specifically on my eye area, where I wore eyeshadow and eyeliner. What I did next was just to simply swipe the cotton soaked pad over my eyes.

To my absolute surprise, I would say close to all my eye make up was removed with just one swipe! I’m indeed impressed that the product was able to do so because it’s fast and effective, very much suitable after a long day and you just want to be in your bed, sleeping.

My only complaint is that because it has mint element in it, it actually stings a bit when the product gets into parts of your inner eye. If used with caution, I believe you can minimize this, hut however I would say it’s not feasible so my recommendation is instead to use it at other parts of your face.

Where to buy?

You can get it directly from the Althea’s site and I have included the link here for your ease; Pore Purifying Serum Cleanser | S$ 11.00  or  Pore Purifying Serum Cleanser | RM35.00.

Beauty: How I got addicted to Althea’s Milk Peel Cream Mask

When we talk about peel cream, it’s one of those products that I feel is most often overlooked or not considered in many beauty regimes mainly because there is a lack of understanding over what it actually does for your skin. Face peels can actually help with a plethora of problems, from pigmentation to scarring, hydration to acne, skin texture to fine lines and wrinkles. However, each different peels products have different types and it’s worth noting that they are not universally the same.

Essentially, all face peels remove a top layer of skin to exfoliate and speed up your cell turnover, but some remove more than others, depending on the type of face peel you decide to try. All face peels involve applying a chemical or natural solution to your face to expedite the exfoliation process. After doing some reading about it, I realised it’s worth trying this such product out.

And thankfully for us, Althea’s production house have been working tirelessly churning products to complete their range of products and one of their latest release happen to be the peel cream. Read more to find out what my thoughts are, as I’m sure you’re wondering how it turned out to be.

What is it?

As the name suggests, this product is what it is known as, which is a peel cream mask. This product helps to removes dead skin cells, clogged sebum and impurities from the air without irritating the skin. In addition to that, it also helps to moisturize and refresh your skin with casein, a type of protein which is packed with vitamins for a healthy complexion.

The key ingredients of this product are AHA, BHA and milk. As I read the product write-up, I found out that each of these ingredients have a specific purpose. Where AHA helps to remove dead skin cells on the surface of the skin, the BHA on the other hand, removes impurities and de-clogs the pores and the last key ingredient is milk which moisturizes and refreshes the skin.

With daily usage, this gentle peeling mask gives your skin smoothness and clarity with its self-bubbling formula and double exfoliating effect that smoothens out roughness. Pores are also minimize by removing impurities from them. Upon dispensing from the bottle, you’ll find a soft clay which ends up to become a whipped cream bubble texture.  What happened here is that the creamy clay texture bubbles into a rich lather to deep cleanse the pores and remove dead skin cells.

How to use?

It’s super easy to use this! The first step requires you to dampen the skin. With a wet canvas to start out with, it’ll be easier to apply an even layer onto the skin, massaging till a rich lather forms. Then, you’ll need to leave on for 30-60 seconds before rinsing away with warm water. That is pretty much it! All in all, it would take less than 2 mins and a maximum of 3 minutes tops. Super simple and easy to include one’s beauty regime.

Thoughts

Product itself is quite thick and creamy, I’d imagine it to be harder to apply without first damping your face. The water helps “melt” away the creamy texture and turn the application of the mask into a smoother one. It’s easier to spread evenly then. As you leave the mask on for approximately 30 seconds, that is when the magic *poof* happens. The layer of mask starts to foam up with uncountable amount of tiny bubbles forming all over. You can actually feel it, the sensation of that happening is actually rather interesting.

But the best part had to be when you’re removing it. Because the layer of air bubbles formed from the mask, it actually makes it rather rich and luxurious to wash the cream mask away. It’s also very easy to remove the mask.

Where to buy

From none other than the ALTHEA’s website, of course! You can get them here >> Milk Peel Cream Mask (Singapore) or Milk Peel Cream Mask (Malaysia). These are priced at S$ 12.50 in Singapore or RM 36.00 in Malaysia.

Beauty : The Perfect Sunscreen Ever, Althea Velvet Sunaway

For the longest time ever, I remembered searching for the perfect sunscreen. Granted that each person have their preference over what is defined as the best for them, this is especially so … given that everyone is born with different skin types and we each react differently to different products. I tried so many different products before I finally settled for one, because one of my biggest peeve in a sunscreen product is when it has a sticky, greasy finish. Gah, I hated those kind the most and years ago, it was difficult to find one which wasn’t that.

Another reason why I didn’t like most sunscreen products back then, was the white cast they had after application. The white cast is caused by mineral UV filters, which are the actual ingredients in sunscreen that work to actually protect the skin from the sun. In sunscreen, there can be either mineral (physical) or chemical UV filters or a bit of both. The white cast effect is evident in mineral filters such as zinc dioxide and titanium dioxide as they need to sit atop the skin like a shield. They work by reflecting UV rays from the skin as a mirror would. This is what causes the white cast – the minerals are reflecting light, making you like a sun-protected ghost. ;p

I did finally settle on a particular product because it had a light, watery texture that is easily absorbed and does not leave any sticky after feel. This product was essence based which was also sweatproof and waterproof. However, it wasn’t my ideal sunscreen. Reason being is because despite what it’s claimed to do it still left a slight sheen on my face and you’ll need to use powder to pat down the shininess. But seeing it’s the next best product I could find, I relented and settled for that until … that fateful day when I finally tried the Althea Petal Velvet Sunaway product.

What is it?

Althea Petal Velvet Sunaway is one of the Althea’s latest addition into the Petal Velvet series of product. Read more about my review of it here >> Trying Althea's First Beauty Product - Petal Velvet Powder.

Althea have since came a long way, releasing multiple products which I have had the opportunity to review. The products released thus far have ranged from a finishing powder; Petal Velvet Powder to a skincare range of cleanser, emulsion and moisturiser; Bare Essentials to masks; Real Fresh Skin Detoxer and now to compliment the beauty series with the release of a sunscreen. This may their best beauty product released ever, if not it definitely is my favourite one thus far.

Unlike other comparative products, this sunscreen is formulated with Damask rose extracts which helps to ensure that your skin stays fresh and hydrated throughout the day without any streakiness or a white cast.On top of this, it also has a SPF of 50+ and PA++++  that protects your skin from the harmful rays of the sun. And my favourite feature is that it’s part of Petal Velvet line where it contains micro-powder particles that give you a smooth, petal-like complexion.

How to Use

It’s relatively simple to apply this product but there’s a twist where you’ll need to shake the bottle well before application. This step of "shaking before use” bears some likeness to the typical sunblock products in the market. However, the similarities end right there.

The product is lightweight, which makes it extremely easy to blend and spread on your face. Once applied, it leaves a matte finish which is a huge advantage for me. This is as it makes it very buildable and I am able to use other products over it. Hence, you can use it as a primer base as well, since it provides your skin with a nice velvety landscape.

Otherwise, if you fancy a quick fuss-free au naturel look, you could use your other products and use the Petal Velvet Sunaway to give you the protection from the sun and finishing the look with the latest updated range of Petal Velvet Powder(s). The new range now comes in two additional variant on top of the first version #0 Translucent which is #23 Warm Beige and #Pink Lavender.

On my lazy days, I have simplified my make-up routine to just as the sunscreen, Petal Velvet Sunaway and the Petal Velvet Powder! I love how fine and easy it is for me to apply the powder. I’d use a kabuki brush for the application of the powder by simply dusting it over my face. Super simple, and it simplifies my routine by heaps. I’d even be able to skip my usual BB cream application too!

Thoughts

Having used the product for the past one month, I can happily assert that by my records, the Petal Velvet Sunaway is truly a star product in its class. Althea have managed to take the least interesting, sometimes overlooked product (especially with more foundation, BB/CC cream having embedded sun protection) to innovate it and produce a sunscreen which we didn’t know we could love. At least for me, I swear by this now.

I have combination skin, with oily T-zone and after applying the sunscreen, along with the velvet powder to finish it off, I can go hours long before my oily T-zone shines on. This itself is a huge plus for me, and would be the reason why I’d highly recommend this product. Let me know your thoughts if you do try it out. :)

Till next time,
xoxo

Beauty : Real Fresh Skin Detoxer Masks – Rose & Green Tea

Sticking to a beauty regime have always been something rather difficult for me, mostly because the Asian skincare routine is always so tedious with the many different steps to do. The famed Korean skin care regime has a total of 10 steps in total which comprises of cleansing, exfoliation, toner, essence ... just to name some of the products used in the regime.

My beauty regime is simplified mostly because of my laziness, but it's always a warm welcome for me to introduce products which are multi-functional and super efficient like Althea's latest baby. Meet their Real Fresh line of Skin Detoxer Mask in the Rose and Green Tea variant.

Beauty : Discovering Belif’s Prime Infusion Repair Program Ampoule

When it comes to skincare regime, we are indeed blessed that these days we can be spoilt for choices. There are a myriad of products of different functionality with each of these boasting specific features that our skin may need. Just as we familiarise ourselves with skincare essences, serums and creams are, we’re hit with another new type of beauty product – the ampoule.

The ampoule has been quite a thing in Korea for awhile now. It is a potent, viscous fluids, sometimes packed in vials or dropper-type bottles, which are said to produce almost instant results on the skin. You should think of it as a booster shot. These ampoules often contain a higher number of active ingredients and are used for a finite amount of time. Although this have been already been introduced in Korea, there is little exposure on the usage benefits in our regions.

belif’s Prime Infusion Repair Program Ampoule

I’ve been introduced to these wonders by one of my favourite Korean skincare brand, belif which have recently launched their Prime Infusion Repair Program Ampoule. This is a customised 6 weeks Special Program Ampoule which is designed to deliver maximized anti-aging effects through phased intensive care based upon belif Prime Infusion Range’s superior regenerative properties.

How it works is through a six-week intensive care program, you’ll be using a step-by-step ampoules. Each bottle of ampoule is considered as a step and with each step taken, it helps to hydrate, nourish, and return the rough skin to resilient skin. It’s formulated with Mountain Daisy, a traditional English medical herb that was loved by the British royal family and also fondly known as ‘the healing herb”. It is a medical herb that is known for its purifying and regenerating effect.

Step 1: Reset

This Reset ampoule helps to turn uneven skin texture into silky and soft, with its soft, non-irritating old dead skin cell removal properties. In addition, there are also added marshmallow root as one of its main ingredient. This root consists of mucilage, thick, gluey substance produced by the marshmallow root which helps to soften and remove old dead skin cells.

My thoughts on it was that it was actually a lot thicker than I initially thought it would be. But this is due to the how rich the product is packed with, hence that would explain its thickness. belif has placed emphasis on their use of natural herbs for their products, this I have discovered from using some of their Signature products prior to this. As with all their products, the scent has always been pleasant and one that I grew fond of.

So much so that I often look forward to the application of the ampoule on my skin everyday. When I started using it, my face’s condition certainly was nowhere near ideal, I had some bumps and some odd pimples over it. One of the purpose of this ampoule is to improve my skin’s condition to a silky smooth condition, which I found to be true. From the period of two weeks, I was able to notice the improvement in using the product. I regret not taking a before  picture for comparison but I can assured you, it works amazing for me.

A good benchmark on how effective this product is for me is when the huge pimple near my cheek bone have started shrinking after the usage of the ampoule. It was noticeably less inflamed and red compared to the time before I started on the product. As always, I would like to highlight that it’s not a miracle product but one that would need time for the results to show. So, be patient and diligent in using the products for it to take effect.

Step 2: Recover

The Recover ampoule is formulated with various types of natural moisturizing agents that provides long-lasting moisturizing solution without the stickiness than most of these creams or other products has. Specifically for this ampoule, Grape Vine’s sap has amazing antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and astringent properties.

Among one of the main benefits of the sap is that it contains a potent natural substance which can restore radiance to one’s skin. How this ampoule is designed to work is for it to softly embraces the skin and penetrates deeply into the skin and leave both moisturizing and firming effects after application. As each step takes two weeks to complete, I’m now beginning this second step. So, while I cannot go in depth on the results, what I can share about is my initial thoughts and impression based on the product.

This ampoule has a cloudy appearance, in comparison with the earlier step of Reset which is clearer and almost see-through like. In terms of consistency, it is more watery and was easier to absorb after massaging it thoroughly on the face. Just as what the product description have stated, it’s true that there is barely a hint of sticky feeling after application.

Step 3: Reactivate

The final ampoule of the this intensive program which spans over a period 6 weeks, is also a highly concentrated, rich formula that can penetrates deeply into the skin. This Reactivate ampoule will help to improve skin elasticity and leave skin with smooth, radiant finish. With lotus being one of the main ingredients for this ampoule, it will help to detoxify your skin especially since it has strong anti-oxidant effects.

Similar to the earlier Reset  ampoule, this one almost has cloudy appearance but it has a thicker consistency as compared to the previous ampoule. In terms of the scent, I loved this one the most because it has floral notes as well as some mild fragrant smell of herbs too. As expected, it was easy to absorb by the skin with no hint of residue sticky feeling.

As I mentioned earlier, I am still currently in the midst of the Step 2 so I won’t be able to comment much on the effectiveness of the ampoules for both Step 2 and Step 3 but I will be updating this space as I complete each step. Keep a look out for that. :)

Beauty: Review on BareforBare's Whitening Body Lotion

If there's anything that I'm guilty for neglecting, it's actually body care. As ladies, we usually place so much more emphasis on our face care; from face wash, toner, moisturizer, sunblock and even numerous different kind of masks with various benefits for the face. But when it comes to the body, most of the time I won't apply anything to it. Occasionally, on those rare days I’d use a body scrub during my shower or I’d remember to use my in-shower body lotion.

What I actually don’t realise is the fact that we live in a tropical climate country where we are exposed to about approximately 200 plus hours of sunshine in a month. As wonderful it is to have a climate akin to an all-year summer, these sunrays in the form of ultraviolet (UV) radiation come with its harmful consequences too. One of the more serious consequences is actually premature aging of the skin and of course, the more common effect of exposure to these UV rays is a melanin pigmentation  —in other words, tanning of the skin.

There is actually a pretty simple solution to avoid this all from happening! Wear a body lotion which comes with sun protection as well, such a simple way to overcome it. Meet Bare for Bare’s Whitening Body Lotion, a multi-functional body lotion that comes with a SPF15 which would offer you sufficient protection to get you by the day.

True to what Bare for Bare’s embodies, my initial thoughts when I first opened the box was how aromatic it actually is. The body care range actually comes in four amazingly aromatic scents for you to choose from – Rosemary, Lemongrass & Ginger, Green Tea and Bergamot & Geranium. The one I have is the Bergamot & Geranium smells absolutely calming and relaxing, especially if you’re stressed …. the smell of this will rid away your worries.

Bare for Bare Whitening Body Lotion SPF15 | RM79

The Bare for Bare Whitening Body Lotion SPF15 is the latest addition in the Body Care category. comes in a size of 180ml, priced at RM79. This product contains the key whitening ingredient in this specially formulated whitening body lotion, known as melavoid. The melavoid is obtained from the roots of punarnava, a well-known herb with high medicinal benefits. It has dual lightening action that prevents the initial phase of melanin formation, at the same time, treats skin by evening out skin tone and reduces spots in number and intensity, prevent the formation of new dark spots, resulting in brighter and even skin tone. With these benefits obtained, it’s a no wonder that it’s been included in this product.

Shea butter being one of the key moisturizing ingredient in the world of body care, hence it’s no surprise that this lotion is also a very good remedy for dry skin due to its natural ability to protect skin’s natural oils. In addition to that the lotion’s benefit is enhanced with the inclusion of  Macadamia Oil which has high content of Omega 9, hence the skin will be nutritiously moisturized, and softened, while Omega 6 works well to restore the skin barrier function and reduces water loss, keeping skin plumped up and healthy. With Sunflower Seed Oil being another part of the ingredients, this oil acts as an emollient that softens rough and dry skin especially areas like elbows, knees and heels too!

The product when pressed right out of the tube, appears clumpy and uneven. However, it was actually really easy to apply and spread the lotion. What really amazes me the most is after spreading the product, it felt as though my skin was like a sponge soaking up all the nutrients! There was no sticky feeling, and my skin was actually smoother after the application. The best part? It’s how amazing delicious my skin is. I have to stop myself from smelling myself too much. It’s such a nice aroma, very calming and relaxing —similar to that aroma commonly used in spas.

Needless to say I’m pretty sold and have incorporated it in my daily regime, I mean how could I not to with such an aromatic scent! You can purchase them from the official website [ www.bareforbare.com ] – worldwide shipping or from the following e-commerce sites ---> { Lazada } { Shopee } { 11street } . Beauty : The Best Christmas Gifts from belif, believe again!

Christmas is one of my favourite seasons of the year and there's no prize in guessing why. It's such a festive season that even if you feel 'meh' about it in the beginning, you'll be influenced by all the magical vibe. Christmas is known as the season of givings, which makes it all so exciting because you get to receive and give gifts to your loved ones to show your appreciation. For the beauty junkies, this also means that there will be festive Christmas sets sold at very  from our favorite brands.

Beauty: Pout perfect and Eyeliner on fleek with Lip & Co's products!

“Give a woman the right lipstick and she can conquer the world!”

This is truly what my mom believed in — that lipstick is the most essential make up product that every woman should have. This is why she’d always gave me a little nag whenever I walked out the house bare face. But it’s true and I do agree that lipsticks are essential to women. I also believe that we can never have too many lipsticks … this I’m sure many ladies would agree with me on. So, what is your choice of lipstick?

Beauty : A:Concept’s Make Your Concept Black Set - Christmas Edition

It’s that time of the year again, the festive Christmas season where we will welcome an abundance of good food and presents to end the year with a blast! It is also my favourite time of the year because beauty brands usually release special edition make up sets which usually consist of limited edition items or items bundled together and sold at a special price!

As it happens, I have the chance to review A:Concept "Make Your Concept Black Set" their Christmas edition which contains All-In-One Brightening A:Cushion Compact, a refill of the Cushion Compact, a lip and cheek stick and a lipstick. If you’re new to this brand, you should know that this product is used by by Girl's Generation's Taeyeon and their make-up artist Seo Ok. It’s called all-in-one because the compact has multiple features such as whitening, anti-wrinkle, UV protection and on top of which, the compact can keep your lipstick / concealer / cheek pen in it too. Read on more and I’ll show it to you.

Before I received this product, I read a couple of reviews online and I stumbled upon one blogger which mentioned that the coverage for this product is minimal even after three layers. With that in mind, I put it to test by applying the product. My initial thought is that it is a bit tricky to get the product on the air puff (the applicator). First I tried by pressing the air puff on the cushion, but I’ve only managed to get some of the product on. What I learnt after a couple times of usage is that you’ll actually need to press the air puff repeatedly until you feel that there is enough product for you to apply on. There after, I would repeat these steps a couple times more to get the coverage I wanted.

Let me share more about the design of the compact next. Its design is pretty similar to most cushion compact we have seen in the market. It houses the cushion which is soaked with the product, coupled with a dedicated compartment to keep the puff in place. The most unique and interesting part of this compact is that you can slot in your lipstick or cheek blusher or concealer to carry it on the go. This itself makes it very handy and convenient to touch up make up on the go!

Next is the lip & check stick which is a product that can be used for your cheeks as blusher or your lips, just like a lipstick! It’s aptly named as Everything in A Lip&Cheek. The shade I received is the Coral shade which is perfect for most skin type as the shade replicates that of a natural blush. It was easy to apply, although I must admit I didn’t really know how I should apply it.

I ended up dotting my cheeks with the product (I’ll show you in the pictures) and using my fingers to then blend the colour. It definitely was easy to blend and the end result was a very natural and subtle blush!

The A:Lipstick I received was in the shade of RED ORANGE. As the name suggests it’s red in colour but with hint of orange. It appears more as an orangey undertone, which I’m personally not a fan of. Unlike your usual lipstick, this one came rounded in shape which I found to be trickier to apply. It’s managable still but you’ll need to be careful as you go on around the edges. The lipstick finish is matte, which is pretty much the trend now. The staying power of the lipstick is pretty decent, if you watch how you eat … you probably will be able to get to last a couple of hours.

But reapplication is easy with the A:Cushion Compact because there is a dedicated compartment for you to slot the lipstick in, making it super handy to carry the lipstick around. You can also choose to bring the Everything in A Lip&Cheek instead as well.

What I loved about these sticks are that they come with a mechanism which prevent you from accidentally twisting your lipstick by accident and ended up ruining it. To put it simply, after using the sticks, rotate until you hear a ‘click’ ! That’s the safety lock in place, because the product won’t be able to budge without firstly unlocking it. It’s very neat feature, because I lost count of how many lipsticks I have ruined.

Overall, I really loved how I can achieve a simple make up with just these products; the cushion compact, lip cheek and lipstick. If you don’t believe me, the pictures shown in this post are the results of using those three products! Of course, for the finishing touch, I dusted my face with Althea's Petal Velvet Powder to keep my face matte and looking fresh. Would you believe that I actually managed to finish my make-up using all the products above in just under 7 minutes?!

So, that’s why this "Make Your Concept Black Set" from A:Concept  is perfect for ladies who are minimal in their make-up and one, who always have that flawless face because the compact is so light and easy to carry around! I’ve been bringing them everywhere I go and pretty much loving the convenience I get. The set can be purchased from Althea for only RM106, here’s the link >> http://my.althea.kr/make-your-concept-black-set <<< ! With Christmas just around the corner, you better hurry on and grab it before it is sold out!

Beauty: The SEP JEJU MASK PACK Review— Honey, Cactus, Tangerine, Green Tea

Growing up, I remember the days where I had my share of acne and skin problems during puberty. Gosh, it was such an awakward time as girls growing up and facing puberty. That time, I was naive and I didn’t actually know that there were a wide variety of beauty or skincare products to help address these problems. What I did back then, was to try out many different Do-It-Yourself (DIY) remedies to solve my acne problems. I’ve done tomato mask where I smashed raw tomatoes and placed it on my face, as I read that this will help me pimple scars. It’s hilarious thinking back those days, because the juice from the tomatoes will keep dripping down my face.

Beauty : Trying Althea’s first Beauty Product — Althea Petal Velvet Powder!

The loose powder is an essential make-up products for ladies, which I'm sure many will agree with me. It may seem like a simple product but it is one which works wonders in any make-up regime which is why the loose powder step, is one not to be missed. It's usually use as a finishing powder because of how versatile it is. I'm sure ladies will agree with me on this one, because I personally swear by it too! Because of that, I’d always been on a hunt for the perfect loose powder which can set my make-up, get rid of oily shine (usually after applying foundation / BB cream) and sebum control, which will leave you face looking matte especially for those with oily T-zone.
