CFAB; 1½ years later.

Oh, how time flies. Thinking back, I could still remember the first day of my class. We were so quiet and everyone actually did the homework on the spot, during break time. HAHA. Now, that is so rare. As a class, we have been through a lot. Personally, I don’t recognize myself back then. I know, I’ve changed so much. College, is definitely one of the major turning point in my life. Heartache, a plenty but happy moments were always abundant. And now, after a year and a half, we will be moving on to ICAEW. So proud, that we made it this far. :)

The Best Nights of This Month.

Thanks to Wei Yuen and Pat from ICAEW Malaysia for the invites to these exclusive events. I honestly had no idea how awesome these events was until I was there. I got to help out a little on both days.

Cocktail Reception – Nov 9

IMG_4230Quite the excited me, I laid down the accessories I was planning to wear early in the morning. Honestly, I think accessories is the key to work that outfit.

1With a view like this, it is kind of obvious where the event was held. It was none other than The Petroleum Club on the 42nd floor of KLCC.

IMG_4240 Three macho guys? Nah. I so so prefer guys that smile. The huge teeth-y smile, yo.

IMG_4251We managed to take a picture with Lim Kit Wan. The lady who can do it all, no joke. :)

page I was trying to imitate the Economia in the picture on your left. But turns out, it doesn’t even look the same. On the right side, it’s me and Cheok.

IMG_4269This is definitely one picture for the album because Dato’ Johan Raslan is in this picture! Who is he? He is the Partner and Executive Chairman of PricewaterhouseCoopers, the firm that I am going to intern at from January till March. It is definitely a great pleasure to meet him in person. A very friendly and humble guy. After the party, I kind of regretted not taking a personal picture with him. Gah.

But the cocktail party was like a sneak peek of how the corporate world does their networking session. I was assigned to follow the photographer (which was very super enthusiastic about his job) to take down the names of the important people he photographed. Sounds like an impossible job at first, but it wasn’t so bad after all. I managed to meet the President (Mr. Gerald Russell) and CEO of ICAEW (Mr. Micheal Izza) while doing my task.

I definitely look forward to attending more of these kinds of events in future!

IMG_4285If you can see clearly, my hair is a bit curly after the party because of my hair do. It left my hair oh-so-dry, it should be the hair spray’s fault. Damn.

Annual Dinner – Nov 11

IMG_4309 Haha, we couldn’t miss the chance to snap a picture with the emcee of the day  (Miss Kit) along with the back drop for the dinner.

IMG_4313 Meet my table mates for Table 31! Jo, Cheok and Reuben. We had fun talking a lot of shits.

IMG_4322I met Miss Pushpa, my Law lecturer when I was walking around the ballroom. A huge thanks to her, because I scored 88 in my Law finals. Fantastic lecturer!

IMG_4312 That oh-so-lost face. This was candid, I wanted to snap a picture of the ballroom but decided that shot is so damn boring. So, I saw Cheok in front of me and I called out his name. ‘Snap, click.. ta-da!’

IMG_4342 One of the nice full-body shot taken, but I realised how grainy this picture looks. Cammy must have burst the ISO.

IMG_4336 The CEO’s seat! Hahaa, I am such a stalker. I was peering and looking through the name cards on the main VIP table and I thought I’ll try to snap a picture. I like this picture, think the lighting is just perfect.

IMG_4350 A picture with Mr. Ong and the CFAB students. He was sort of the star of the night because one of his students, Mr. An Li Foong won the First Prize and the Watts Prize for the subject ‘Audit & Assurance’; the subject Mr. Ong taught. He brought his wife along, she is pretty and tall.

IMG_4316 Group picture! The whole lot of CFAB students at the event.

IMG_4317The picture with silly expressions. Hahaa.

And guess who I managed to take a picture with?

IMG_4329 Dato’ Johan Raslan! :) Wish came trueeeee. And I look so overly happy, smiled too huge until can see my gums already. LOL, right?

IMG_4367The souvenirs for the dinner. The CFAB-ers were the ones distributing it to the guests that night. We rock. :D

So, that is all the pictures I have. The dinner was so-so. Some of the food was good, others were just merely edible. Performance was noisy, they had dikir barat in English. And no offence but it sounds tacky. It sounded as though, they flipped open an accounting book and plucked out the words.

Note: I did the make up myself for the first time ever. How was it? How much do you rate?

CEO Visit  to Sunway – Nov 11

Earlier in the day, the CEO, Mr Micheal Izza actually visited the Sunway University College. And I was the emcee for the visit. Only got the script a day before the event so I didn’t bother memorising it. I was honestly kind of nervous about it. I imagined myself screwing it up and I did, though it was forgivable mistakes. But I got to learn from it, so it is a good experience. Plus, Wei Yuen later told me that the CEO thought I spoke with confidence! Thanked God the nervousness didn’t show through my voice. Oh, I didn’t really like my outfit either. The Batik top was okay, the knee-length skirt (albeit it being from Sub; my favorite shop) I don’t really like it cause it’s too long! It makes me look short even with heels. :(

IMG_4292 Couldn’t resist taking a picture with the CEO. Hey, it’s not like he comes down everyday right? I changed to my dinner outfit immediately after I emceed. Again, he thanked me for hosting the visit. Well, those were his words. They are all so courteous. Even the Head of Operations and Director Learning and Professional Development, Mr. Mark Protherough approached me and said well done for the emceeing. And Mr. Irwin Menezes, a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers too!

this was such an awesome week. i wished my weeks were all like that. xoxo.

How was the weekends?

Saturday – The Amazing Race

Saturday was pure hard work blended with an fantastic coordination and planning that made the Amazing Race such a huge success. And to think that, we managed to pull off the event in just four days. The thought of it is enough to make me float up into the blue sky. The teamwork is great, I have never worked with a team so well before.

These pictures are simply taken from my Bobbing Apple station (where they had to immerse their head into a basin of water to get the apple out) at the Monash University bus stop. I patiently waited with Cheok there for close to two hours. Damn, we were so bored.

page2

I started camwhoring and claimed that kissing an apple was actually apple sex. Haha, my mind does this weird things when it get so bored. Not my fault. :D Hmm, I loved how random these pictures look like. I likey!

page3

These people, my dear beloved friends got bored too while waiting at their station which also happens to be the last station. Pity them, but the two guys seem to had plenty of fun attempting pole dancing.

IMG_4043

I love this picture. I have always love the idea of having a picture inside another picture. That is Celia and me, by the way. We both feel that we have that copy pasted similar smile in every photographs. Which in my case, is kind of obvious.

IMG_4053

And this is Crystie. God, I love how happy she look when she attempts the star jump, where as I always succeeded in looking overly-happy. Which in turns makes me look like shit. :(

A group shot of the committees and the participants. (Though not everyone is in it.)

IMG_4075  Hot Red ICAEW peeps yo!

Thank you all for making this event a success, hope to see you at the next event. CFAB/ICAEW rocks the world.

Things happen when you least expect them.

Life has a way of making things happen, especially when you didn't expect it to happen. In my last post, I ranted on the possibility of only getting the e-exam results on Tuesday (today) since it was a Easter Monday holiday in London. Of course, since I know it was holiday I brushed off thoughts of the possibility of getting the results yesterday (Monday). I happily went for a photo shoot which I shall blog about later, placing the results of the e-exam right at the back of my mind.

And all of a sudden, while waiting for shoot to begin, I got texts from friends saying that the results was out already. I was like, 'Really? Are you serious?' Damn. Thanked God, I brought my PSP out with me. I checked immediately and the website was taking eons to load, which it finally did after a long time of course. And the best thing was the PSP browser messed up the ICAEW's website layout. All I could see was pass. But I'm happy enough already. I eventually saw my marks, after scrutinizing the screen much further. It was good, better than what I'm expected.

I have to thank a few people because without their help I wouldn't have gotten this. Let's call them the angels. And of course, Miss Geetha, my lecturer. Friends too. Did I mention that I have to cook for them now? I'm planning to do the White Cheese Sauce Spaghetti which I thought was heavenly, made by mummy. I'll have to learn from her first. We'll see then.

PS - Someone who claimed he failed after the test owes me lunch.

Talk about perfect timing.

Yesterday, I'll say that most CFAB-ians played a game called 'The Waiting Game'.

Heard of it? Maybe not.

It's probably caused the real name for the game is 'The Waiting For The Results Game'. Still not familiar with the game? Don't fret, it has another name too which is 'Clicking Refresh Like A Maniac on The Results page Game'. Try playing the game with us CFAB-ians; it's very likely for your blood pressure to rise and the game even throws in heart/anxiety attack to add to the already sky high tension.

If you didn't understand the first few paragraphs earlier, let me just rephrase it here. In my last entry, I posted about the first e-exam I sat for. And the result for the exam was supposed to be out 24 hours after the exam. So, logically speaking 24 hours after my exam would be 4th of April 2010, 11 am. But somehow rather, some of my classmates told me it's out at 3 pm instead. I was already frustrated when the results wasn't out at 11 am. Fine, 3 hours later won't make much difference I told myself. But then at 3 pm, the results still wasn't out. Oh, did I mention that throughout the 11-5 pm period, I was in front of the computer clicking on the 'View Your Exam Results' icon again and again. Even when I tried this morning, all I see is this:

I'm so very tired of seeing this page already. I wish to see my Management Information results on that page, pretty please? I'm already asking very politely despite how frustrated I really am now. As it turns out, I wouldn't be able to get my results today either. Simply because today is Easter Monday holiday in London and yesterday was Easter Day holiday.

Grrrrr-eat. It means that the results will only be out on Tuesday, around 5-ish pm. I decided to spare myself from the many many anxiety attacks I may get from refreshing the page and not seeing my result there with converting the London time to local time.
" 10:00:00 Tuesday April 6, 2010 in Europe/London converts to 17:00:00 Tuesday April 6, 2010 in GMT+8 "
So, classmates I think by now I'm pretty sure we should all stop opening like 6 tabs and refreshing the page. It's Tuesday and that's still a long day to go.

The First E-Exam.

After about 3 months of studying Management Information, it alls boils down to one e-exam. So, you can only imagine what yesterday was like for me (today was the e-exam). Actually, if I recalled what I did yesterday, about a large percentage didn't involve studying. It only hits me like hours before the clock struck 12 that I had a freaking final exam tomorrow, and that's when all hells broke loose. The table was in a worst state than ever, I couldn't find the worksheets which was buried under piles and piles of paper. Imagine my horror.

This was the state of my table yesterday.

Somehow rather, I think I managed to convince myself that I needed the sleep or else I couldn't think the next day which would actually make things worst. But one thing for sure, I didn't manage to go through all the piles of worksheet Ms Geetha, my MI lecturer gave us throughout the entire 3 months. Sighs.. well, what's done is done already.

So, the e-exam was kinda ... (I don't know how to describe it). But basically, the questions, at least for me was totally different from the hundreds of questions we did in our class. It would be a lie to say that I wasn't shocked when I saw the questions, I almost didn't even have enough time. I was like at question 28-ish and the time left was around 30 minutes. For a moment, I thought I wouldn't be able to finish it. But I think I was lucky to not get that many questions from Chapter 11. That chapter is my worst.

Well, we'll see how it goes tomorrow when the result is out on the ICAEW website. This is so causing me more anxiety.
