Eat: Paradise Dynasty, Bangsar Village II

It’s no secret that Bangsar is pretty much a food haven, so much so that if you close your eyes, randomly head to any direction, you would end up in a decent restaurant. But have you ever found yourself in Bangsar and actually craving for some comfort Chinese food? I know I have, and I couldn’t think of any place in Bangsar that serves just that.

Well that was that, until I found out that Paradise Dynasty actually had a branch in Bangsar Village. Paradise Dynasty is famous for the World’s First 8-Flavoured Xiao Long Bao, or the rainbow xiao long bao as I would prefer to call it. They also happen to serve one of the best 'la mian’ with their amazing pork bone soup.

I absolutely love their pork bone soup, I remember the first time I had it at their Paradigm mall outlet. The first sip, and that was all it took for me to fall in love with the soup. Mind you, that happened about a year ago and up till now, it is still one of my comfort food.

And now, just at their Bangsar Village branch, Paradise Dynasty have just launched their ala-carte Chinese dishes in addition to their existing menu. Their ala-carte menu is introduced for customers who are looking to eat Chinese food, those with rice and dishes type. These dishes are from the same chefs who brought the xiao long bao and the delicious la mian, so needless to say I was expecting the dishes to be delicious. So, were they? :)

* * * * * * * * * *

For this post on the food review, I would be giving a short summary of each of the dishes I sampled..paying more attention to those I loved. And here it goes!

| Crisp-fried Shrimp Paste Chicken Wings |

Based on the picture alone, I think you can tell just how crispy the chicken wings were which was just that. I love how crispy the chicken was, but somehow I can’t tell if shrimp paste was used to marinate the wings. I did felt a tinge of spicy-ness but it didn’t taste like shrimp paste.

| Crisp-fried Crystal Prawns with Salted Egg Yolk |

| Crisp-fried Crystal Prawns in Fruity Salad Sauce |

I might be biased when I say that I love the two prawns dishes I had because prawns are my favourite type of seafood. I have tasted crabs cooked with salted egg yolks but I never had the one with prawns. I must say I quite like it, although I would prefer the prawns to have a stronger, salty egg yolk taste. As for the prawn in fruity salad sauce, this is the favourite among kids and I can tell why. It is served with a tangy mayonnaise sauce with fruits, yums. The combination works wonder and is quite refreshing.

| Steamed Promfret Fish with Homemade Garlic Chili (Spicy) |

This dish arrived looking absolutely glorious, buried with a combination of garlic and chilli sauce. Besides prawn, my next favourite meat is fish. This fish served was very fresh and the sauce went well with the fish meat. I was also impressed by the waitress’s ability to de-bone the fish so skilfully. Here is a picture of her in the midst of that process.

| Steamed Promfret Fish with Homemade Garlic Chili (Spicy) |

So, the next time you’re here in Paradise Dynasty and you ordered this fish, you can ask the waitress to help you de-bone your fish. Then, you can sit back and watch how she skilfully does it. I was rather impressed by it, it is quite amusing to watch and it was all done within minutes!

| Poached Chinese Spinach with Egg Trio and Minced Pork |

When I first saw this in the menu I was expecting something completely different than what arrived at our table. Poached would actually meant that the spinach is cooked with soup, along with three different types of eggs (chicken egg, salted egg and century egg) and minced pork as well. It was unique because this felt so much like a home-cooked dish and it was delicious, making it perfect for comfort food on a rainy days or in fact any day would be perfect.

| Steamed Minced Pork with Salted Egg and Water Chestnut |

Just like the Poached Chinese Spinach with Egg Trio and Minced Pork dish above, this steamed pork dish felt pretty much like something my mom made at home. The only difference was that Paradise Dynasty’s version have salted egg yolk. The salted egg yolk gave the dish a twist, and that made it stand out from most of the common minced pork dish we would have tasted before.

* * * * * * * * * *

| Pork Dumpling with Hot Chili Oil |

As spicy and daunting this looks like, it actually was bearable in terms of spicy-ness. I don’t personally like my food to be too spicy but I felt this was still mild. The dumpling’s skin used was smooth and the fillings were meaty too. I would say this was an interesting dish, because I never seen dumplings served in oil.

| Radish Pastry  |

And meet the deliciously intricate radish pastry; you can see the delicate layers on the pastry. Don’t be deceived to think that it is only filled with radish because it actually has some minced meat inside it as well. If you ask me, this was lovely to savour as the pastry crumbles in your mouth.

| Radish Pastry |

| Scrambled Egg White with Fish and Dried Scallop |

And here is another one of my favourite dish from Paradise Dynasty that I loved before this review. When my friend introduced this to me, I loved it instantly but I didn’t know the story behind it. I found out now, that this dish was created centuries ago.

Back then, the queen in China (during those dynasty period) was craving for crab and it would take days just to get crab. But she wanted to eat it now and the head chef knows that if he can’t produce the dish, he would be sentenced to death. Hence, he came up with the idea of using fish and scrambled egg white. The result, is a meat so smooth and tender that if you eat it with your eyes closed, you would think you were eating crab meat.

| Scrambled Egg White with Fish and Dried Scallop |

The egg yolk is to mask the fishy smell and there is actually a technique to eat this dish. You’ll need to scoop the egg yolk and pour it all over the dish gently, without stirring too much of the dish. If you do that, the dish would end up very watery. So, there is also an art of serving this dish.

| Deep fried Diced Chicken in Szechuan Style |

Here’s another dish which looks ridiculously spicy, but thankfully looks can be rather deceiving at times. This tasted like a way better version of popcorn chicken with less batter and healthier option than those deep-fried ones. I like it, but it didn’t leave much of an impression on me.

* * * * * * * * * *

| La Mian with Dried Shrimp and Scallion with soup |

| Signature Dynasty XLB |

And then there is their signature dishes which need no further introduction. The la mian was a dry one which has been tossed with sauces and then served with dried shrimps and scallion, along with the pork bone soup. So delicious, I can have 10 bowls of it and probably eat it everyday. Then, there is the xiao long bao, with 8 different flavours! My favourites would be the black truffle and cheesy one. :)

* * * * * * * * * *

And with that, my post on the delicious food I had in Paradise Dynasty comes to an end. The next time if you’re craving for good Chinese food around Bangsar, you’ll know exactly where you can head to for them. You’ll find it in Paradise Dynasty located in Bangsar Village II, on the second floor.

Out & About: BE BRAVE’s Campaign

Today, I’ll be taking a break from my usual post on food, events or beauty to talk about something which is a topic that most would avoid. And even if they do talk about it, it’ll be behind closed doors. So, what' I’ll be talking about today is actually Premature Ejaculation (PE) which is is the inability to control or delay ejaculation before or shortly after penetration.

If you read that and wondering why I’m talking about premature ejaculation, it is because it is  something that more people need to be aware of. You may have heard about erectile dysfunction, which is similar to premature ejaculation, whereby it is both recognised as a medical condition by global health organisations. Like most other sexual related conditions, this PE medical condition is accompanied by heavy stigma by our society along with a lack of understanding of the condition in the Asia Pacific region.

Hence due to that, A. Menarini, an international biopharmaceutical company have decided to launch the BE BRAVE campaign to help create awareness among couples regarding this PE condition and that most importantly it is a treatable condition. It is from this campaign that I learnt more about this medical condition and how it can affect one’s sex life. The campaign pretty much aims to give men the courage to speak up about their condition and for their partner, the women to advocate for them.

Part of the BE BRAVE campaign comprises of a interactive online quiz called the “Which Inner Hero Are You” quiz, which is designed to be played by both men and women. In the quiz, the women play to discover which inner hero matches their partners’ personality, while men play to discover their own inner hero. The quiz is available on http://www.bebrave.my/, so hop on over there to give it a try.

Quiz front

If you click on the link above, you’ll be directed to the page above and you can then select your quiz based on your gender. :) I took the “superwoman” quiz, of course. After choosing the type of quiz, you’ll have a series of questions that you will need to answer. If you’re thinking, “Oh dear, is this like a survey or something?”, it’s not actually! You’ll be surprised at how the questions actually are. Here’s an example.

sample question 3

So, you can see from above that the question asked are something like those personality tests type or those quiz to know yourself better. It’s actually pretty interesting to answer these questions and see what happens to the results of the quiz! I don’t want to reveal too much of the questions but some of the questions were something along the lines of naughty thoughts while some actually asked more of a personal preferences to a varied type of questions. If you’re curious to know more, you should totally try it out at BeBrave.my.

results

And, ta-da! Here’s my result from the “Which Inner Hero Are You” quiz! So, it turns out that my partner would be the “Love Magnet”. Technically, if I had a partner I could match my results with him but hey, I'm currently pretty much single so I don’t have a partner to compare my results with. It would be lovely though if I had a partner and he was as how the quiz described him to be because that’s so mhmm, ah-mazing.

Control pe

Anyway, on a more serious note, you can see on the top right of the quiz screenshots above that there is a website; www.controlpe.com.my where you can find out more about premature ejaculation and ways to overcome the health condition. That is also the website where I learnt more about this medical condition, where you can find information of the condition, the correct facts, the types of treatment and diagnosis, along with a resources page.

There is also a list of clinics where you can head to, to speak and see the doctors for consultation of men’s sexual health. On top of these all, if you suspect you may have the condition, you can take the Premature Ejaculation Diagnostic Tool (PEDT Quiz). This will help you decide whether you need to see a doctor for a diagnosis and effective treatment.

Now that I learnt and am more aware of the condition, I have decided that more of my friends need to know about this, especially my girlfriends and the guys too. This condition may affect more people we know than what we expect, hence sharing is indeed caring in respect of this. So do share this website; www.controlpe.com.my with your friends and family, so that they would be more aware of this condition. You can also get them to play the quiz at BeBrave.my and like the BeBraveMY's Facebook page for further updates as well.

Eat: Mid-Autumn Moon cakes from Royal Gourmet of Premiere Hotel, Klang

In conjunction with the up-coming Mid-Autumn festival, the team of chefs in Royal Gourmet have came up with a variety of moon cakes; Snow Skin Durian Paste, Snow Skin Pandan Lotus Paste, Sugar Free White Lotus Paste Single Yolk, Lotus Paste Single Yolk, Pure Lotus Paste and Pure Red Bean Paste. Out of the many types above, I got to sample the following moon cakes which was the first time I’m eating them this year!

| Snow Skin Pandan Lotus Paste |

| Snow Skin Durian Paste |

| Pure Red Bean Paste |

| Lotus Paste Single Yolk |

Personally, I have never been a fan of moon cakes except for those with yolks and if there was yolks in them, I would just eat the moon cakes for the salted egg yolks. I know I could just settle for eating salted duck eggs but hey, doesn’t taste quite the same when you have the lotus paste with it. As you can see from the pictures above, the moon cakes from Royal Gourmet have very thin crusts, just the way I love it. Never been a fan of those thick biscuit-y crusts, I prefer to have thicker fillings in my moon cakes.

And below is the complete list of the moon cakes flavours that Royal Gourmet has and the price stated below is for the box of similar flavours of 4 moon cakes.
  • Snow Skin Durian Paste | RM 88
  • Snow Skin Pandan Lotus Paste | RM 78
  • Sugar Free White Lotus Paste Single Yolk | RM 88
  • Lotus Paste Single Yolk | RM 82
  • Pure Lotus Paste | RM 78
  • Pure Red Bean Paste | RM 68
If you prefer to have more choices, you can also opt for the Deluxe sets where you have the option to mix and match a couple of the flavours together and get the best of them all.
  • Deluxe 1 (2 Red Bean Paste + 2 Lotus Paste) | RM 73
  • Deluxe 2 (2 Lotus Paste Single Yolk + 2 Red Bean Paste) | RM 75
  • Deluxe 3 (2 Lotus Paste + 2 Lotus Paste Single Yolk) | RM 80

Review: Scholl’s Velvet Smooth Express Pedi - #MYVelvetSmooth's Experience

As I’m typing this with my right hand, I’m actually grinding ….. at the same time, using my left hand. Not that kind of grinding if you’re wondering *wink* , what I’m basically doing is just simply grinding the dead skins of my feet away using the Scholl Electronic Foot File. It will sound rather disgusting if you start imagining how that works. But today, I will leave nothing to your imagination and this review post will have pictures for better illustration and ideas of what the Scholl Electronic Foot File does.

I think many would agree with me when I say of all of our whole body, our feet would be the one part that many would have overlooked. We care less about the body part which we use the most when that should be given much more attention than due. Probably with this concept and idea in mind, Scholl have released a Velvet Smooth Express Pedi that can be performed by anyone and at the comfort of your own homes.

The Velvet Smooth Express Pedi kit comes with an electronic foot file, a roller head, 4 AA batteries and one cover. The roller head is a specially designed Micralumina replacable head (there are refills of the head available for sale) and combined with the electronic foot file, you’ll get a gentle and rotating action which is mild on the skin but yet it can effectively removes the dead skin.

I was pretty excited to give this a try, just to see if it is really possible to obtain the smooth skin after just one use. My first thought when I turned it on, was that it had a rather loud whirling sound which seem almost scary to put my feet under it. But after putting it on my feet, I realised that it was actually really ticklish and true to what it claimed, it was gentle on my skin.

After getting used to the grinding/whirling motion of the foot file, I manoeuvred it over the areas of my feet that I wanted it to be softer and I watched as the foot file worked its magic. I could see my skin being buffed and my feet appeared to be somewhat powdery white after using the foot file. It is recommended to spend only a couple of seconds working on one area, and not any longer than that.

Once I think I have achieved the level of smoothness on my feet, I stopped the foot file and compared it to my other feet which I hadn’t used it on. And it’s amazing soft, you’d really can feel the difference! It is amazing that my feet was instantly soft after using the foot file. It is then recommended to moisturise the feet after that, to keep the skin soft and moisturised!

Before | I have dry skin and my feet sometimes peels. :(

As you can see, there are slightly yellowish parts on my feet and those are basically the harder part of my feet due to all the walking and pretty much neglecting to care for my feet. I admit though that my feet is not one of the more severe cases, I know because my mom suffers from that.

After | Remember I mentioned about my feet being powdery white?

The picture above shows how my feet looked like after I used the foot file on my feet for a couple of minutes. You can see how it looks noticeably softer and after brushing off /washing the powder away, it feels like you just went through a pedicure! An express pedicure is just a turn of a switch away now, that’s how easy it really is to use this product. Personally, I found this rather fascinating and I love how amazingly awesome this equipment is. The fact is that it’s so portable and handy, you can pretty much use this anywhere. Now, whenever I feel like my feet needs some buffing, I just whip the foot file out and start to work on my feet!

* * * * * * * * * *

You can get the Scholl’s Velvet Smooth Express Pedi at all the Scholl's outlet and currently there is a nationwide RM10 discount for the product from 1st August 2014 till 30 September 2014! Click on this link;
My Velvet Smooth and there will be instructions there on how to redeem the RM10 discount voucher. :)

PS - If you’re interested to try the electronic foot file, you can do so at the foot pampering session at 1 Utama from 6 -10 August (right outside Watson)!

Eat: Dim Sum Buffet at Royal Gourmet in Premiere Hotel, Klang

The last time I was at Royal Gourmet in Premiere Hotel, I had the opportunity to sample their chef’s special menu which also happened to be my first visit back then. This time around I was back in Royal Gourmet for their All-You-Can-Eat Dim Sum Brunch. I have always wanted to try to an All-You-Can-Eat Dim Sum, because that means I can have unlimited amount of second helpings without having to pay additional for each plate I was eating.

On top of that, there are so many types of dim sum that I can choose to eat from and in Royal Gourmet, there are plenty of dishes that you can pick from. From the Steamed Dim Sum selection, there are Steamed Fish Paste Dumpling, Steamed “San Kan” Dumpling, Steamed Shark Fin Dumpling, “Siew Mai” Dumpling, Steamed Prawn Dumpling, Steamed Fish Ball, Steamed Japanese Crab Stick Roll in Superior Sauce, Glutinous Rice in HK Style, Phoenix Claw in “Si Chuan” style, Rice Noodle Roll with Honey BBQ Chicken and BBQ Chicken Bun.

| “Siew Mai” Dumpling with Fresh Crab Meat

| Rice Noodle Roll with Honey BBQ Chicken

| BBQ Chicken Bun |

| Egg Yolk Custard Bun

| Egg Yolk Custard Bun |

So, here are some pictures of the Steamed Dim Sum that I loved the most. It’s probably worth noting that Royal Gourmet is a pork-free restaurant and hence, the dim sum fillings are either chicken or some other meats. The best part of this would be that if I didn’t tell you that, you wouldn’t have been able to tell the difference also. The chefs at Royal Gourmet has successfully made so amazingly, that you can’t tell the difference all that much.

Of all of the Steamed Dim Sum I had that day, I loved the Egg Yolk Custard Bun the most, simply because once you sink your teeth into the bun, you’ll be greeted with the salty egg yolk yummy gooey-ness. This was only the second time I had this type of bun and I have fallen in love more with Royal Gourmet’s version because it’s salty and it wasn’t too doughy.

| Porridge with Century Egg and Minced Meat |

It’s also worth mentioning that the porridge was unassumingly delicious, I mean it’s just porridge and that was something I would usually not take when in a buffet spread. But I’m glad I did try this porridge because as simple as this was, the porridge was silky smooth and the combination of the minced meat and the century eggs worked wonders!

| Crispy Fried Wantan

| Yam Dumpling

| Sesame Balls |

From the Deep Fried Dim Sum selection, there are Deep Fried Crispy Prawn Roll, Yam Dumpling, Deep Fried Crispy Cheese Dumpling, Deep Fried Golden Crispy Spring Roll, Sesame Balls, Deep Fried Japanese Crab Stick, Crispy Fried Wantans and Crispy Golden Roll, just to name a few. Of the Deep Fried Dim Sum, I loved the Yam Dumpling the most because the fluffy yam tasted puffy and crispy yet, the generous fillings of mushrooms (and others) was moist and flavourful.

| Wok-fried White Radish Cake with Supreme Sauce |

| (L-R) Stewed Chicken, Crispy Skinned Roast Chicken and Crispy Roast Duck with Chinese Herbs |
| Honeydew Sago

| Chilled Homemade Herbal Jelly with Honey Sea Coconut |

| Chilled Chrysanthemum with Wolfberries Jelly |

On top of the dim sum spread, there is also a wide spread of desserts ranging from Sweetened Mochi, Crispy “Shanghai” Pancake, Chilled Snow Skin Pumpkin Dumpling, Chilled Snow Skin in Gold Fish Shape, Chilled Homemade Herbal Jelly with Honey, Chilled Fresh Mango Pudding with Berry Sauce, Honeydew Sago and Chilled Chrysanthemum with Wolfberries Jelly.

If there is only one dessert you can have from the spread, you have to absolutely try the Chilled Chrysanthemum with Wolfberries Jelly. The jelly has a mild taste of Chrysanthemum and the wolfberries provide a nice texture to the jelly. After ‘wolfing’ down so many dim sum, having this dessert felt rather refreshing.

* * * * * * * * * *

Currently the All-You-Can-Eat Dim Sum Brunch is priced at RM58+ per pax and RM48+ for children, is served daily, from 11:30am to 2:30pm. Currently, there is a on-going 50% discount promotion especially for weekend diners as they only need to pay half of the actual price.
