Guide: How To care for Leather bags with Saphir Renovateur

Here’s a question to my fellow ladies out there; if you could only have just one accessories for the rest of your life, what would it be? I’m almost certain that most would answer their handbags! It’s simple to see why.. our handbags are functional and stylish too. Sometimes, it even functions as a status symbol. Think for your example our previous First Lady *ahem*  Rosmah, who is famed for owning quite a number of Birkin bags.

If handbags are so important to us, what’s even more important after purchasing them is caring for it to ensure that the lifespan of these precious bags are extended to the longest possible time. I cannot emphasize how disappointed I am whenever my favourite bag breaks apart. The worse part of that experience is when you’re not able to ever find a replacement for it!

Before I was introduced to Saphir Renovateur, I was oblivious to the fact that handbags actually require care and maintenance too…. albeit it being relatively low maintenance. The folks at ShoeTree Project have set me up with a couple of goodies but today I will share about what is known as the liquid gold  of leather care products.

Saphir Renovateur

A quick search of the Saphir Renovateur will bring up results for using the leather cleaner and conditioner on leather shoes. What you didn’t know is that you can use it on handbags as well, which I believe is a fairly new knowledge to most ladies. I remember I had a friend who posted for help after realising her leather bag are in a horrible condition because of the lack of leather conditioner used.

If I was her, I know I’d be so frustrated and hugely upset over what happened. But fret not, as these could actually be prevented by quite a few simple steps to care for your precious bag. All you need is a piece of cloth and of course, Saphir Renovateur.

How to Use

As I mentioned it’s relatively easy to use the product on your precious bags and the whole process takes less than 10 minutes, tops! Of course, a little disclaimer here as the time taken would also depend on the size of your bag as well the attention to detail that you’d like. At the side of the product, there is a pictorial guide on how to use it.

I find it amusing that this product was probably produced with an intention for leather care for bags but ended up, becoming more known for the leather shoes care instead. I said that because of the guide on how to use the product is focused just on a seemingly similar to a Hermes design bag. Nevertheless, I’m here to share how to use this product today … specifically catered for your leather bags. There are only four simple steps and;

Step 1: It begins with finding a suitable cloth where you’ll be dabbing some product on it.
Step 2: Next, apply the product on the bag in, ideally a circular motion to ensure that the Saphir Renovateur is applied evenly on your bag.
Step 3: Wait for a couple minutes, the recommended waiting time appears to be 3 minutes as per the guide.
Step 4: Using a clean cloth, lightly wipe the bag all over to ensure that any residue of the product have been spread across across the bag evenly.

And that’s it to that! Sounds super easy eh, it really is. I like to think of this essential care step as being an investment. Let’s put things into perspective, if I had spent so much to get that dream leather bag, I’d be sure to do my best to prolong its useful life. This is probably also the accountant in me speaking but trust me, I really am an accountant and truly, this is also the best way to maximise your every dollar.

What is it?

By now, you have read about how to use the product; Saphir Renovateur but you may wonder what is it actually? It’s actually a blend of all-natural mink oil, lanolin, and beeswax, which by the way smells rather amazing. The mink oil helps to rejuvenate leather thoroughly and completely. This is why the product is both a leather cleaner and conditioner unclogs pores for deeper penetration into the leather.

Left : After | Right : Before

The result from the application of the product will leave a soft matte finish as a result of it containing small amount of waxes. My partner is no stranger to this product as he uses it to care for his leather shoes. When I showed him the comparison picture of the before and after using the product on my bag, he was able to point out which picture was after the application of the product. Once you understand what the product does to your bag, then you’ll notice the difference. It’s important to understand that product does not add shine to your bag, which was my initial expectation. However, as I read more about it I realised what the product was designed to do.

Thoughts

Priced at S$28.00, I would say that it’s a minimal investment to make in view of the upside derived from it. Like almost every product we use, it’ll get worn out from the daily usage and without proper care and maintenance, even the highest quality product will succumb to it. And that is why I’d recommend getting the Saphir Renovateur; it’s a simple, quick and very easy way to maintain your loved leather products! It’s a plus point that it smells so good too. :)

You can shop for this on ShoeTree Project, where you’ll find an array of other leather products. The ShoeTree Project are shoe aficionados and they have found that the best shoe care products were notoriously missing in Singapore, or could only be found at inconvenient retail stores. Hence, just like the quintessential shoe tree, The ShoeTree Project strives to make your fine leather shoes last a lifetime by bringing personalized, high-quality shoe care right to your doorstep.

Beauty : All About the Althea’s Pore Purifying Serum Cleanser

In my latest post, I shared about how Althea have been on a roll, churning out beauty products one after another. It amazes me so much in terms of how the efficient the production line is from the idea to the concept to the R&D and of course, the final result! Althea has introduced yet another product which is the Pore Purifying Serum Cleanser which combines both a cleanser and serum! I’ll elaborate more on this cleanser in my review below but just wanted to share the links to all the other reviews of the Althea’s products here.

What is it?

It’s designed as a cleanser and serum which helps to remove make-up and impurities. The product dubbed as a beauty superhero by Althea whisks away makeup, dirt, and oil with mint extracts. The serum-like formula ensures that the skin stays cool and hydrated throughout the day with the dual moisture cell system the product was designed with. This product is gentle on the face and hence, it’s suitable for sensitive skin and helps balance the pH levels of the skin to keep it working in tip-top shape!

How to use?

The instructions have stated that the product is meant to be used by firstly wetting your face and then applying the product in small amounts. Then gently massage in circular motions for 5-10 seconds before rinsing off with water.

Thoughts

When it comes to the removal of make-up, we have seen the evolution of such cleanser as well as the many different variations of it. This version feels like it’s closer to micellar water where it’s clear, looks like water and feels like it as well. Of course, it’s not just water and when you apply the product on your face, you’ll find the make up dissolving.

To test how well it removes make up, I did a simple experiment with a cotton pad soaked with the product and a face with moderate make up on. I tested this specifically on my eye area, where I wore eyeshadow and eyeliner. What I did next was just to simply swipe the cotton soaked pad over my eyes.

To my absolute surprise, I would say close to all my eye make up was removed with just one swipe! I’m indeed impressed that the product was able to do so because it’s fast and effective, very much suitable after a long day and you just want to be in your bed, sleeping.

My only complaint is that because it has mint element in it, it actually stings a bit when the product gets into parts of your inner eye. If used with caution, I believe you can minimize this, hut however I would say it’s not feasible so my recommendation is instead to use it at other parts of your face.

Where to buy?

You can get it directly from the Althea’s site and I have included the link here for your ease; Pore Purifying Serum Cleanser | S$ 11.00  or  Pore Purifying Serum Cleanser | RM35.00.
