Beauty : ID.AZ Dermastic Premium Face Mask

I’m certain that everyone would have heard of a quote that went like this, “An apple a day, keeps the doctor away.” For the ladies, I believe we have a different mantra goes like this instead; “A mask a day, keeps the skin hydrated and smooth.” I know this to be true because this routine of a mask daily have been echoes and supported by ladies worldwide, especially by make-up artists and beauty bloggers alike. I remember coming across a video by a fmaous make-up artist on how she achieves the glass-like skin. Guess what her secret is, a mask daily!

That is why I’m all for trying out any new masks in the market, despite having a growing stash of masks which are just waiting to be used. I know I’m guilty for that but I’m probably not alone in this, right ladies? :p

And now, my pile have grown slightly bigger and this is all thanks to The Butterfly Project. I had the opportunity to try premium mask sheets from  ID.AZ which a brand which actually is under the ID Health Care, a medical institution that specialises in the study of face shape and contours.

The institution realised that many patients were dissatisfied with their skin conditions and this is when, they formed ID Pla Cosmetics to help their customers to enhance their skin without surgery.  The AZ actually means that the products of ID Pla Cosmetics is the accumulation of the know-hows from A to Z, with over 18 years of experience.

Dermastic Premium Mask Sheets

Dermastic is a combination of derma and  cosmetic. The meaning of cosmestic is easily understood and needs no further explanation. Derma on the other hand simply stands for dermis  which is the layer of living tissue below the epidermis. Hence, ID Pla Cosmetics aims to produce cosmetics beauty products which are suitable for sensitive skins, contains safe ingredients and will produce results. With all this talk about the masks, I’m sure you are curious about it, so read on more below!

ID.AZ Dermastic Water-Fit Mask

ID.AZ Dermastic Water-Fit Mask | RM12.90

One of the key ingredient of the Dermastic Water-Fit Mask is the marine water collagen which contains deep sea water, marine collagen, hyaluronic acid. The mask is very moisturising and perfect to soothing skins under stress, as it has a calming effect.

The mask type is a skin fit thin mask, which perfectly sticks to the skin and face shape. When worn, it felt like I had a second skin which was almost unnoticable. Because of how thin they mask is, there is a net film to keep it place.

It smells good, probably a mix of floral and the best thing is that it wasn’t pungent. After putting on the mask, I noticed that there were plenty of serum leftover in the packaging. What I like to do with excess serum is actually to pat them on my neck too! When it was time to remove the mask, I noticed that my mask was not dry and wrinkly like some brands I’ve tried before. The worn mask was still moist and certainly lived up to the its purpose to hydrate.

This mask makes it perfect for those whose skin are always thirsty for moisture and similarly to those who wants moist and lustrous skin. If you have used many moisturiser but none of the products worked, this mask is for you too! Give it a try yourself and you’ll know how amazing it is!

ID.AZ Dermastic Bright-Fit Mask

ID.AZ Dermastic Bright-Fit Mask | RM12.90

I tried this product last, after trying the ID.AZ Dermastic Water-Fit and ID.AZ Dermastic Bright-Fit Mask. Of the three masks, I was most impressed by this. Brightening of the skin via masks was new to me and I didn’t know what to expect. As I opened the packaging, I noticed that milky essence coated the mask generously.

This mask is made from microfiber, which is thicker than the mask in ID.AZ Dermastic Water-Fit. Despite the slight thickness in the  mask sheet, you cannot actually tell how heavy it was.

The mask fits my face perfectly except for my eyes area which was slightly out of proportion. After using the mask, I was suprised to see that my face was glowing and indeed was brighter than before using the mask.

The brightening effect is powerful with this mask  and my skin looks refreshed immediately after taking off the mask. I’m still amazed at the immediate results and I believe if used a couple times, you can achieve baby smooth, bright skin again. This mask is amazing for those who want to brighten their skin tone to a fairer shade, those whose complexion is always dark and spotted and also for those who look sick and is always pale!

ID.AZ Dermastic Golden-Fit Mask

ID.AZ Dermastic Golden-Fit Mask | RM19.90

Of all the masks by ID Pla Cosmetics, the best seller and most famous mask to date is the ID.AZ Dermastic Golden-Fit Mask. There is no surprises as to why it is so popular. I found out about the reason once I opened the mask sheet package. Inside it, was a thick, golden plump mask. I have never seen a mask with gold flecks in it so, needless to say I was pretty amused!

Wearing the mask felt extremely luxurious and one of the purpose behind this was to recreate the aesthetic clinic kind of treatment but done at the comfort of your own home. I would say that they have successfully achieved that. The mask was a sticky two piece elastic hydrogel —one of the upper face and another for the lower.

The gel mask are kept in place by a transparent film, to ensure shape of the masks are maintained. When applied on the face, the hydrogel mask stayed put on the face and albeit it being heavier than usual mask, it is supposed to lift sagging skin. How that happens is probably through the mask, although it wasn’t so noticable for it.

What I noticed more was that my skin after the application of the mask was more supple and looks rejuvenated. This was because the gold ingredient used functions to purify and brighten skin. The honey, royal jelly and propolis turns the skin elastic and healthy! With such rich, nutrient packed mask… no wonder my skin felt so good after that. The only complaint that I had on this was that the smell was slightly overpowering for me. But I had asked my mom and sister on their opinion of the smell, they actually said it smelt good. So it’s really just me.

Conclusion

All the three masks I have reviewed —  Water-Fit Mask, Bright-Fit Mask and Golden-Fit Mask have exceeded my expectations on what these masks are capable of doing. It’s not often that you find masks which can produce instanteous results after application. Of course, having said that, the results would differ from one person to another because of our skin conditions. The only way you can find out how amazing these masks are is to actually try them out yourself.

The price point is indeed higher than most masks but as I’ve indicated from the start, this is a premium mask sheet range. After using them, I can testify that the experience really does differ from using normal masks. You can get these masks from the nearest Watson’s stores located nearby! There should be an on-going promotion where you can get the second piece was just RM1. I would love to hear your thoughts if you’ve tried it too! Eat : Japanese Fine Dining at its best in Ishin, Old Klang Road

Nestled in a corner of a two-storey building along the busy stretch of Old Klang Road is Trip Advisor’s 2017 Top Choice Award Restaurant. You may ask, now which restaurant is this? It’s none other than the famous Ishin Japanese Dining. The restaurant has been around for many years now and still growing strong, a testament to show that their consistency in serving quality fine Japanese food had resulted in just that.

Now, if you have driven down through Old Klang Road, chances are you would have came across a large sign which spells out the word “ISHIN”. Many times it caught my eye and I’ve always been meaning to try the food there. Last week, I has the opportunity to just do that which I’d share my experience here. When I first arrived, I almost got tricked into parking at the next building but please don’t be fooled. Due to the limited parking spaces available, there are actually free jockey parking for ISHIN customers so you can dine hassle-free without worrying about where to park.

As you enter through the doors, you’ll be greeted with the minimalist décor with seating options on kitchen island where you can watch the action of the trusty chef preparing your meals and those of the other diners. The cosy ambiance of the restaurant will make you feel relaxed and with drink in hand, it’ll feel as if a friend had invited you over for dinner. I was ushered to the second floor, where private dining spaces were available. Now I understand why the restaurant have been a crowd’s favourite to celelebrate birthdays and anniversaries. For these dining options, reservations made in advance is highly recommended to avoid disappointment.

The menu here is viewed from an iPad, with an accompanying picture for every item on the menu. For those who like to choose their menu based on the visual images, this one is for you. Their àla carte variety is extensive ranging from Sashimi, Maki Sushi, Yakimono, Menrui, Nabemono, Shokuji … just to name the few of them.

Special Sashimi Platter | Price varies depending on catch of the day

Special Sashimi Platter | Price varies depending on catch of the day

The sashimi platter came first — entwined bands of unshy, oily shima-aji around pea shoots; firm shiny squares of maguro; transluscent kawahagi fish topped with creamy, smooth black caviar;  gorgeous cuts of hamachi belly; thick chunks of sweet kampachi; a slippery-soft tongue of raw Botan ebi next to its armored head; buttery lobes of Hokkaido uni on the green shiso leaf; crowd’s favourite of salmon toro and sweet, creamy slices of prized hotate.

Tatami Iwashi | RM22

For the appetizer we had a plate of Tatami Iwashi, which at a first look seems thin paper sheets. What it actually is dried baby sardines which have been entwined in a single layer to form mar-like sheet. It was crispy, and extremely addictive.

Tatami Iwashi | RM22

The other appetizer we had was the Gyuniku Tataki — thin slices of lightly seared fillet beef, topped with condiments garlic chips and chives, buried in a citrus sauce.

Gyuniki Tataki | RM47

Special House Maki | RM37

Special House Maki, a thick roll of sushi, where the nori wrapped the fillings of deep fried ebi tempura, lettuce and cucumber with the rice on the outer layer of the maki. The crunchy texture of the maki is indeed welcomed, after the earlier rounds of sashimi platter.

Unagi Oshizushi | RM51

Unagi Avocado Oshizushi, is a box sushi where it is made by pressing blocks of rice with the special toppings in a mould. The topping used here is the rich flavoured unagi and creamy avocado, resulting in one of the best combination for this sushi. The unagi was crispy on the outside but succulent and tender on the inside. The portions of which are generous, with every bite guaranteed to have a chunk of unagi.

Dobin Mushi | RM30

We have all heard of miso soup but I’m sure Dobin Mushi, a clear soup served in a tea pot. The dashi-based broth is delicate, and the soup contains shrimp, ginkgo nuts and tofu. The teapot soup is served together with a citrus fruit; lime. The soup is poured in the small cup and the ingredients are removed from the pot with chopsticks and placed in the cup. The lime is squeezed a little bit at a time in the cup.

3 Taste Mini Chawanmushi | RM22

The chawanmushi, traditional savory egg custard but this 3 Taste Mini Chawanmushi is the luxury version of the traditional delicacy. It’s served steaming hot in egg shells; a cute innovation and use of ingredients. Each one has a different toppings ; uni, tobikko and caviar. Eating the smooth silky steamed egg was like spooning up the densest top layer from the neck of a bottle of pure cream.

Shabu Shabu | RM98

As the weather have been on the colder side lately, we decided it’s best to order the Japanese hot pot; shabu shabu. It is served with clear dashi broth in a dual purpose pot on a portal stove.

The raw ingredients are served on two plates, one for the meat of Australian Beef and one for all the veggies. It comes with condiments such as chives, chilies and garlic, alongside with two different sauces of sesame and ponzu.

Shabu Shabu | RM98

Shabu Shabu | RM98

Miyazaki Stone | RM250

The highlight of the night arrived gloriously in the form of Miyazaki beef stone grill and a platter of perfectly speckled marbled wagyu beef. For cuts of this quality, medium rare is highly recommended.

Miyazaki Stone | RM250

Miyazaki Stone | RM250

It’s a self-cooking concept, so you need to be watch as the meat is grilled to get it medium-rare. The flavours are at its peak, where the meat is most tender …. pure beef perfection on a hot stone. Rich, buttery and it melts in your mouth. One good bite of the wagyu and I’m already strategizing on where I can have it next.

Chocolate Parfait | RM19

Ending the night on a sweet note, we ordered a sinfully delicious Chocolate Parfait of chocolate ice cream and topped with a generous amount of cream and a crispy thin wafer. We were also served the special Japanese melon which is famed for its sweetness.

Eat : Wine and Dine at MANDALA Cafe & Bar, Solaris Dutamas!

Solaris Dutamas houses a pletohora of cafes and restaurants that leaves us spoilt for choices when it comes to deciding where to eat there. My last eating adventure in Solaris Dutamas brought me to the grounds MANDALA Cafe and Bar, located at Block D… the quieter block of Solaris Dutamas. A cosy ambiance greets you as you step into the cafe, furnished with modern wooden theme and features a split-level dining.

The split-level dining makes it perfect to have parties and gatherings there because it is an enclosed private area which can fit approximately 10 persons there comfortably. Speaking of which, it's a good idea to have family dinners here too like how I did with my family. It has a cosy ambiance with soft music playing in the background and I got to spend time with my family. :)

The wine rack is situated on this dining area which makes it a perfect backdrop for those Instagram-worthy pictures. If you saw my Instagram’s post recently on https://www.instagram.com/itscarmenhong/, I posted a picture which was taken with another backdrop there. :) Their black walls make it ideal for those pictures opportunities.

We were introduced to some of the best sellers at MANDALA Cafe and Bar. The type of cusisine here are more on the Western side, so you can expect a number of the crowd’s favourite like pasta and grilled chicken. Now, how does the food fare? Read more on my detailed review below.

Food, oh food!

Black Angel Pasta with Grilled Chicken | RM18

For the fan of herbs, you’ll probably find the Black Angel Pasta with Grilled Chicken to your liking. The spaghetti is coated generously with various kind of herbs. The inspiration behind the name of this pasta came from the look of the dish.

Grilled Chicken with Buttermilk Sauce | RM20

Mandala’s twist to the comfort food of grilled chicken is to serve it with buttermilk sauce. The grilled chicken was very well marinated and there was hints of liquid aminos used in the chicken. That taste is a very unique one, and not many restaurants used these kind of marinate. As for the buttermilk sauce, it is actually spicy and a unique combination indeed.

Fried Chicken Wings | RM18

These chicken wings were cooked in the style of Korean fried chicken but less flour was used. I’d prefer it that way and I loved the sweet honey garlic sauce that coated the wings. It was applied evenly, with a light crispy thin coating. It was so delicious we ordered a second plate. The wings were a combination of sweet and savoury, topped with sesame seeds.

Lemon, Garlic and Butter Mussels | RM33

The mussels dishes that I have usually seen in restaurants comes in a potful of soups, but this version at MANDALA Cafe and Bar has very minimal soup. But the soup packs a punch in flavour, so the best way to eat it is to scoop some of the soup to coat the mussels before eating. It’s also recommended to dip the bread into the soup!

Golden Soft Shell Crab Spaghetti | RM28

Golden Soft Shell Crab Spaghetti | RM28

When this arrived I was overjoyed to see the whole soft shell crab perched gloriously on the bed of spaghetti. More often than not, the soft shell crab are served in chunks versus the complete crab. So being able to eat the whole crab feels like an absolute luxury. At first look, the spaghetti looks just like any normal spaghetti except that it was anything but that.

Drinks, the elixir of life!

Unlike other cafes, MANDALA Cafe and Bar differs from them as it’s also a bar where you can expect wines and cocktails mixes by the bartender. Currently there is a promotion for ladies to redeem a free cocktail!
