I remember years ago, I was craving for a hearty Italian meal and my foodie friend brought me to Italiannies. That was my first visit there and true to my friend's suggestion, it was indeed a restaurant which served comfort, hearty meals that is sure to satisfy any cravings for Italian food. It is as authentic as it can be as the head chef of Italiannies, is from Italy itself. And recently Italiannies have introduced a new menu, making its debut at their Gardens Mall outlet. The new menu is not only designed to provide high quality delicious Italian food, but to also proudly root the Italian tradition in all its dishes. Our night of feasting begins with the Classic Caesar, which is an Italian-style of caesar salad with toasted foccacia bread. As for the antipasto, we had both the Spinach & Artichoke Formaggio and Bruschetta.

The Bruschetta, is topped with truffle, chickpea puree and sautéed mushrooms served on a homemade Tuscan bread. Just one bite into it and I could already identify the signature truffle taste in it, which compliments the other ingredients as well. The Spinach & Artichoke Formaggio is actually one of my favourite, which I am sure cheese lovers would agree wholeheartedly with me. Imagine this, crispy toasted garlic bread served alongside with spinach, artichoke and mushrooms cooked in a creamy blend of fresh cheeses, then topped with delicious sun-dried tomatoes. It’s mhmm-mhmm good! I had second helpings of it and I honestly, could have eaten more.

For the classic pizza favourites, Italiannies have introduced a new Carbonara flavour which is essentially pizza but with the carbonara white sauce. This new pizza flavour has a topping of smoked duck bacon with Pecorino and Mozzarella cheese. To complete the whole carbonara flavour, an egg is added on as a topping too! For those who loves to go big on their pizza orders, the crowd-favourite 16-inch Enorme is still available on the new menu. The pizza dough at Italiannies is made daily by hand to ensure its freshness.

We also tried the Fionrentina Pepperoni, which is pizza with Pomodoro sauce, topped with pepperoni, baby spinach, quail eggs and Mozzarella cheese. For pasta, we also tried the Angel Hair Arrabiata, Seafood Cioppno and Classic Roman Seafood Carbonara. My favourite of the three is the new Classic Roman Seafood Carbonara, which is a classic Roman-style carbonara with egg, prawns, mussels, clams and spaghetti.

The Sizzling Roasted Chicken was a real surprise to me, as the presentation of the dish was not as appealing as what the dish can offer in terms of flavour! It was delicious; the chicken is well-marinated and the gravy wine sauce goes really well with the chicken. The dish is also served with red capsicum, pepperoncini, onion, parsley and rosemary potatoes. If you’re looking for main courses to share between friends and family, the Deep Fried Seafood would be perfect! There are baby calamari, tiger prawn and soft shell crab deep-fried with pesto dipping on the side and served with mixed salad, with portions suitable for a two to three persons. Then there is also the newly introduced choice of the Classic Roman Marinated Rack of Lamb, grilled marinated rack of lamb in classic Roman-style, served togethe with spinach cream and mashed potatoes with an accompanying parmagiana sauce.

I am sure many will agree that a meal is not complete without desserts, and so we ended our Italian feast for the night with their latest desserts offering of Pannacotta, an Italian vanilla custard with strawberry sauce. After this feast, I stand true to what I believe… Italiannies is truly, the place to dine at fuss-free Italian staple food of the best quality.
