Eat : Chinese New Year Festive Spreads at Ti-Chen, Saujana Hotel

Nestled among the lush greeneries of Saujana Hotels & Resorts is Chinese restaurant, Ti Chen in which the name translates to ‘Emperor’s Palace’. Hence, it is only befitting to be greeted by the imperial guards (which reminds me of the Terracota Army) at the entrance of the restaurant. A step into the restaurant will take you back to the days of glorious China dynasty, especially with the live music of chinese instrument “guzheng” playing in the background.

This coming Chinese New Year celebration will be the very first for Ti Chen in its new home, moving from Saujana Golf & Country Club to The Saujana Hotel Kuala Lumpur. The restaurant now sits conveniently next to the lake, providing a perfect backdrop for those family portraits or even OOTDs photographs.

Come this Chinese New Year, Ti Chen, honours its namesake – the ‘Emperor’s Palace’  by offering an imperial gourmet indulgence with new creations in three available set menus signifying good fortune, good luck and prosperity. The first set is the Ji Xiang Ru Yi Set priced at RM1,508 nett per table of 10 persons, the Nian Nian You Yu Set at RM1,898 nett per table of 10 persons, or the Gong Xi Fa Cai Set at RM2,588 nett per table of 10 persons. Each set comes with free flow of soft drinks which can also be upgraded to house wine or whisky instead for only RM100 to make the occasion merrier.

No Chinese New Year celebrations will be complete without first having the Yee Sang dish where we begin the feast with the“loh hei”, also known as the prosperity toss of the Yee Sang. Ti Chen’s signature ‘Yee Sang’ uses select premium toppings of salmon slices and juicy scallops. The Yee Sang starts from RM88 nett per portion onwards and is available for dine-in and takeaway.

This Chinese New Year’s feast spread have been thoughtfully crafted by Executive Chinese Chef, Sam Lu, where each ingredients have been carefully selected as the Chinese customs have always favoured ingredients used which sound similar to words and phrases refering to wishes expressed during the Chinese New Year or have symbolic meaning to them.

Of all the dishes that I have tried, my favourites would be Braised Crab Meat Soup with Fried Fish Maw and Black Moss. As I slurped the thick soup broth, I tasted the chunky bits of crab meat and black moss to lightly chew on. And then, there is the crunchy fried fish moss which is my favourite too! Yums to my tum tums!

Black Garlic used in the Steam Live Red Snapper Dish |

Steamed Live Red Snapper Fish with Black Garlic Sauce, is my next favourite choice for the very biased reason that I have always preferred fish over any other meat dishes. Executive Chinese Chef, Sam Lu used black garlic, which was a very expensive and flavourful ingredient to give the dish that unique flavour, to what would have been a traditional steamed fish dish. It’s worth trying a bite of the black garlic too, I initially thought it was prune!

I like the Sautéed Sea Prawns with Superior Sauce, too because prawns are another one of my favourite too. The prawns are fresh, bouncy in texture and as I sinked my teeth in it, I can taste the sauce and the firm, crunchy texture of the prawn. The Braised Stuffed Oyster with Ten Heads Abalone and Vegetables is also delicious, because the oyster have been stuffed with fish paste, black moss and many other ingredients too and of course, the abalone was so yummy too!

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my feast at Ti Chen and by the end of the meal, I was stuffed to the brim! This Chinese New Year’s festive feast sets are available exclusively from 5 January to 11 February 2017. During this festive period, the Chinese restaurant which is usually closed on Mondays will be operating daily from 12.00pm to 3.00pm for lunch and from 6.00pm to 10.00pm for dinner. Enrich members can also celebrate and earn miles at Ti Chen, starting with 3,288 miles for the Ji Xiang Ru Yi Set, 4,988 miles for the Nian Nian You Yu Set and 6,888 miles for the Gong Xi Fa Cai Set.
